I thought this was an amazing article. It has pictures too.
Anita Paul, a Nashua native, would go on become one of the first women ever to fly for the United States military, a feat that has, until recently, gone largely unheralded.

She would later become a Carmelite nun, carrying out the rest of her days in a life of prayer and service.

Last night I randomly came across Story of a Soul. I think I might have to read it again.

It's been a while.

However, I really wish I had Archbishop Fulton Sheen's St. Therese -- A Treasured Love Story to read before or after the re-reading of Story of a Soul.

He has such a great love for her, one that is definitely much deeper and more profound than mine. :paperbag: Therese is someone I've always had a difficult time with. (I was so resistant to jumping on the "Therese bandwagon", yet she and her sneaky "Little Way" somehow manages to break through the most stubborn of hearts.) I mean, she's super-awesome and, though it's taken a few years, I am a fan of hers. ;) I just feel like there's a lot of things I'm "missing" or "not getting" about her, you know?

Almost every fellow discerner I've known embraces her awesomeness. Needless to say, I'd like to be able to sing her praises with just as much enthusiasm as they do.

Anyhoo. That's one of my random thoughts from the past 24 hours.

I'm enjoying reading about St. Dominic quite a bit... he's more methodical, concrete, and straight-forward. I like that in a saint.

In fact, he kind of reminds me of my dear Ignatius. :D

Order favoritism? Don't you know all flowers are exactly the same?

Ok so maybe Therese said something slightly different.

Oooh, a random thread for my random comment. Excellent. I do random.

I have recently, as in within the last six months or so, learned that while there are no female Jesuits, Jesuits were instrumental in founding some women's communities that have very Ignatian spiritualities and sense of mission. They're just entirely separate (which means that their leadership is entirely women, unlike Carmelites or Dominicans where the women's communities are ultimately under the authority of friars).

Ahem. HOW is it that I am just finding out about this now???? This could have been very interesting information for me about a decade ago.

I am kind of sort of maybe perhaps considering looking into various orders' secular branches or associate programs or such. There is no such creature for Jesuits (sigh) but the Congregation of St. Joseph -- the biggest of the aforementioned women's communities -- does. And they have a big presence in my city and a motherhouse in the next neighborhood over from me. Hmmm. This may be worth a phone call to the director of the associate program. Hmmm.

You know, I've always felt like I've been "missing" something about St. Therese as well. I know a lot of people who have such strong devotions to her... And I've read Story of a Soul, I Believe in Love, and the Letter's between St. Therese and Maurice. She's great... I guess I've just not yet "got it," I suppose?

I do love Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, though.

Want to hear something eerie? I went to a shrine gift shop today and found an icon of St. Elizabeth of the Visitation which I was about to buy (but didn't because her face looked unfriendly). I got home and remembered that today is the Feast of the Visitation. It's like Elizabeth was trying to remind me! :)

 that's funny but I understand your reason for not buying any saint item where they dont look quite right. I'm the same way which is why I don't have any statues etc I just can't seem to find ones for sale that I like.

I just didn't like the way she was portrayed. Her face looked gloomy and I remember St. Teresa of Avila saying that she didn't like "gloomy faced saints." I see Elizabeth as a warm, friendly soul.

I wish it was easier to find statues or pictures of my favorite saints. I have the hardest time finding ones of St. Elizabeth and St. Dominic. :ohno:

Why is it that there are no active Traddy communities?
