Welcome, to the Phatmass Phemale Community, a place where women of all Charisms can come and live together in the same beautiful place. It is enriched by our different practices and devotions and sustained by our love for Christ.

Thank-you for giving the PPC its own thread--a great idea! The Community may be imaginary, but it is still an experiment of how those of different charisms can live together, and find we have more in common than we have differences. The PPC not only lives its love of Christ, but also embraces the joy of Christ. Even if it seems like Dominican favoritism, I propose that one of the Community's mottos should be the wise saying of Thomas Aquinas, "It is requisite for the relaxation of the mind that we make use, from time to time, of playful deeds and jokes."

For our Franciscan and Carmelite sisters, we have a few tree houses ranging from down by Brother Dirt,

to up near Sister Sky.

And, holding in high esteem the value of fraternitas we even have community tree-houses:

Of course, if any Dominicans or any other sisters fancy tree-houses, they are more than welcome to them.

I LOVE these! Thank-you for finding all these pictures. I would love to live in a tree house, although right now, I couldn't handle stairs well. But, the first two look fairly close to the ground, and maybe, for those who prefer to live on the ground, there could be an extra treehouse or two for retreats or just for a change. They also look like they might be cooler in warm weather.

I think some posters have seemed to prefer a more traditional monastery, with cells, although personally, I think I'd be happier living in a hermitage, but joining the community for most prayer, meals, and recreation. I don't see why we couldn't have both. For example, on very cold days in winter, it might be more practical to move to a cell in the monastery. But, everyone should feel free to speak up as to what they would consider an ideal community.

Note: In previous discussions, we have mentioned that the Community has a generous anonymous donor, so that cost won't be an issue for decisions like this. I don't mean AT ALL that we intend to live lavishly, but that we can have fun creating our "ideal" community without constantly letting cost dampen our fantasies. I think that the different charisms of members of our community will probably mean that some will live a more spartan life than others. But, for example, I would love to have a chapel that is beautiful in the way it is designed, but, I feel no need for a chapel with a lavish use of gold ornamentation (although I certainly love visiting gorgeous churches). But, I would love to have a chapel with an excellent organ (and a Sister who just happened to be a professional organist "in the world,") just as we would have a Sister Cook who is a trained professional chef, and knows how to make simple, but delicious meals--both vegetarian and not. Was it in "This House of Brede" where the Reverend Mother said that "Penance should not start in the kitchen," (or something like that?) Someone who has read the book more recently can correct me.

Although I like the old fashioned wood ones too. That looks like great places to live.

I'm glad you like that quotation, too. However, I was only proposing that it be ONE of the Community's mottos (although an important one). I'm sure that we will come up with other mottos, as well, that will be among the words for the Community to "live by." I don't want anyone to feel that favoritism is being shown to Dominicans.

As for a community chapel, I've taken the liberty to start with one of the many smaller ones:

This one shall be called Our Lady of the Angels

Of course, the main chapel should be a collaboration of the many diverse members of the community.
And because of our great devotion to Saint Joseph, might I suggest that the main chapel be dedicated to him?

What a hilarious picture! Although I was hoping that one of the goals of the architecture of the Community would be "simple beauty." I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I've always wanted to live somewhere where the buildings were designed to fit into the landscape.

Also, I think that particular "tree trailer" might have some problems in high winds.

Good point. Being Franciscan I looked just for trees houses because that was my ideal (note: I edited the post with tree houses to include a community tree house :P ) I wanted to leave it up to the Dominicans and others for ideas on what a convent would look like. I'm having a hard time finding good interior convent images. :/ Let the imaginations run wild!!

I saw that one too!! I almost put it up, but it seemed more funny than anything. Hilarious, but not very safe. :hehe:

We will definitely need more than one motto; there are so many great ones out there!! You Dominicans are so humble that I doubt anyone would think that way. We'll have plenty of other charisms in the mix as to not hurt any one's feelings. (although right now there is an awful lot of Franciscan!!! Someone needs to help me out!!)

I actually knew a small community of Franciscan brothers trying to live St. Francis' rule for brothers in a hermitage(unfortunately they were not able to make a go of it after a few years of trying) who lived in tree houses in The Birkshire Mountains. They did itinerant ministry in the cold weather (in warmer places) then returned to their hermitages when heat was no longer needed. The owner of the land said they were free to use it as long as they did not build permanent structures on the grounds...hence, tree houses.

I love the pics....but I'm a real cenobite at heart...Benedictine to boot, give me covered cloisters, cells, a cloister walk and a cloister garden....but then again if it's for the sake of community...those tree houses look pretty nice. :)

One possible wing of the convent:

I'm still looking for images for the traditional convent, complete with cells, libraries (I of L can help me out here), chapels, dining, kitchen, courtyard, garden, grotto, etc.

Feel free to add as many pics as you like!

I think there should be a flying ship in the ceiling sailing towards the altar.

Agreed! I also think that if the whole church isn't covered in gold inside than at least one chapel should be exactly like Bernini's chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in St Peters. I'd post a picture but pics don't do it justice just go and see for yourselves :)
