Id go for AMDG which is short for the Jesuit motto Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam meaning for the greater glory of God because it is my motto as well. However, I don't think I could ever get a tattoo. When you get older and your skin starts to lose it's elasticity, the tattoo gets all faded and ugly-looking. I've truly never met [b]anyone [/b]whose appearance was enhanced by a tattoo. I know that will probably offend folks on here who happen to have tattoos, and I apologize, but that's the way I feel. I have NO desire to deliberately inflict pain on myself by getting a tattoo. Getting my ears pierced was plenty. And, well, I think tattoos are tacky. It's nothing personal--it's just I grew up with a whole different set of values. Back in the day, only sailors and jail inmates got tattoos. I KNOW it's different now and perfectly normal, in fact, very common. So please ignore me (which you will anyway), and go ahead (not that you need my permission). Just don't get a Dominican tattoo and then suddenly realize God has called you to the Carmelites. But, to be safe, you might check in advance whether the application for the Order you are appying to asks if you have any tattoos or piercings. I'm sorry I missed chat, too. IrishSalesian Posted August 25, 2010 Share Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) It doesn't offend me that my appearance isn't enhanced by getting a tattoo. I have a trinity knot on my right calf. My intenton behind getting it wasn't the greatest but I have used it to teach the doctrine of the trinity! So, there is some good that came out of it. I got it three days before I was accepted into the Salesians and they have no problem with it. However, o doubt they would let me get another one.
