The Carmelite nuns in Valparaiso are very strict, and they do not allow pictures to be taken of the nuns. I think, perhaps, you might be thinking of the Elysburg Carmel, which was established by the nuns from Valparaiso. I've only seen pictures of the chapel in NE, never in the cloister. I did find two videos of a tour someone did of the grounds at the monastery on YouTube:

Who is the prioress there? Is it still Reverend Mother Teresa of Jesus as it says on this site? http://www.lasvegasmariancenter.com/carmel.htm

Yes, it is still Mother Teresa of Jesus. In some Carmels the same Prioress is elected again and again .. every three years I believe it is.

Both Valparaiso and Elysburg allow pictures of the nuns actually. And I know for sure they take them on clothing days and professions and send copies to the family. Also, they allow the family to take pictures in the parlour, which I know some Carmels do not. But they do not want them posted online, or shared with other people (which I probably violated by posting those pictures where you can see the Sisters faces in Elysburg, mea culpa!)

I don't think you violated their rules about posting pictures because the ones that I have seen are from news about their new cloister in Elysburg. A few of the pictures show the nun's faces, but it's from far away so you can't really see very much.

Right before "In The Arms of the Lord" left for Elysburg, she told me the same thing you just said--that her parents would get copies of pictures of her clothing day and profession, but they were not to share them with anyone. I think it's beautiful how hidden they are. I truly think that this holds the true spirit of the hidden life of a Carmelite nun. :)

Ok I got it sorry for asking guys forgive me...I just wanted to ask one thing do they wear the great veil?
Do you mean the veil that covers their face when they receive the Eucharist and during prayer? If so, yes, they do. Elysburg has carried on this tradition. I think it's beautiful.

I've seen some pictures of investiture and vows at Valparaiso. One of my good friends (who is now at Poor Clare, actually) had a best friend who entered Valparaiso (she has since transferred to Elysburg) and one day we went to the now-Carmelite's house to see the pictures her family received of the investiture and vows. So beautiful!!

I don't know of any Carmel these days that still wears the great veil, or rather, that wears them as they used to .. covering their whole faces before everyone except immediate family .. http://www.corbisima...s&caller=search The Communion veil and the great veil are something different, as Indwelling explained here ..

Interesting Nunsense... In my former OCD 1990 monastery we still had a tertiary during our very infrequent visits to the parlour. In all of My Monasteries both french and spanish as well as 1990 and 1991's we wore the Communion veil for mass. We also had a night veil and night scapular which always wound up around my neck by morning..lol. Only one of my Communities wore a great veil.
I'm pretty sure the community she's referring to here was Brooklyn (the old one), which was her first Carmel as she has said. So anyway, it would be something interesting to ask about ... I have also heard of the term parlour veil, though I think that may technically be the same veil as the Communion one, with the flap folded over the head and pulled before the face at Communion and during their thanksgiving after Mass ..

Isn't there a very traditional Carmel in Spokane that is now in full communion with the church? I think they wear the great veil.

There is an SSPX Carmel there, but I haven't heard anything about them coming into full communion with the Church ..
