"St. Benedict’s Rule" offers insight into the monastic life, exploring the abbey’s many facets and speaking with the priests and brothers about their life of prayer and contemplation. It also explores how the monks coped with the shocking outbreak of violence that took place within the abbey’s walls.Conception Abbey was established 8 December 1873 by Benedictine monks of the Swiss abbey of [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engelberg"]Engelberg[/url] as a place of refuge should their monastery be suppressed by the Swiss government.

Conception Abbey is a monastery of the [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-American_Congregation"]Swiss-American Congregation[/url] of the [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benedictine_Confederation"]Benedictine Confederation[/url]. The monastery, founded by the Swiss [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engelberg_Abbey"]Engelberg Abbey[/url] in 1873 in northwest Missouri's [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodaway_County"]Nodaway County[/url], was raised to a conventual priory in 1876 and elevated to an abbey in 1881. At present the community numbers sixty-five monks who celebrate the Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours daily and who staff and administer Conception Seminary College, the Printery House, and the Abbey Guest Center.
