The Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart are a contemplative-active group. (not active-contemplative)

They're Polish, and I think they are very willing to work with people and allow them to try out their vocation as a postulant. Meaning, they don't write people off right off the bat or have an unfair expectation of who a 'future sister' should be. So, if they have the type of charism you are interested in, they're probably worth talking to. The province in the US sometimes sends sisters to their mission community in Jamaica. Don't know their take on the whole college thing. I mean, no matter where you join, you'd have to study as part of your novitiate, so you can't avoid future classes!
I will contact them for their stance on medicine and health issues. Thank you so much.

Okay, my question for Mater was answered in her above post. Thank you Mater. :) I have no clue what God has in store for me. :idontknow:

How nice! The order that I recommended -- the Sisters of the Most Holy Soul of Christ -- are an order based in Poland as well, so that's pretty neat. :)

Well, their website gives a good amount of information, but one thing I know is that they are an order based in Poland. Their foundress, Mother Paula Sophia Tajber, was from Poland. They are a sort of missionary order and have missions in Poland, the US, and Africa. I have never visited them, but their VD is very nice, as far as I can tell. Unfortunately, I wasn't in contact with her for very long since I decided to apply to the Carmelite Sisters DCJ, so I broke off communication with them and every other order to focus on one. I think she gets in touch pretty quickly, too. :)

These Orders were mentioned on another forum. I just contacted them to see what they say.

Birgittine Sisters -- they require perfect health, so they can't accept me.

Sisters of Jesus Our Hope -- their apostolate requires good health and so they can't accept me.

Sisters of Christian Charity -- Sister was open to discussing my health, but after I wrote about my conditions, she has not responded. I just wrote asking if that means they are not open to me now.

Solis Sisters in Canada -- Sister was open to discussing my health. I just recently wrote about my health issues and waiting to hear back.

Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles -- Sister would not say whether they are open to me or not. Sister said that we would have to talk on the phone about it. I'm not ready to get that serious and talk on the phone, but I will probably in the future. Do you think this means they are open to me or not?

Daughters of St. Dominic of Steubenville, Ohio -- Sister said that as far as medicine, it would depend on whether I could live the life. They are a small, newer community, and they give spiritual direction. I don't know that it is the right fit for me.

You are an inspiration to all of us here at Phatmass. Just follow in the footsteps of Jesus, and he'll lead you home!

The fact that when I sent my first email saying I was on medicine for a mental issue, and Sister said we would have to talk on the phone... Does that mean they are open to considering me?

Any thoughts?

This is a beautiful Order with a retreat apostolate, among others.

I know virtually nothing about this order apart from what I have read on the internet, but, in my experience, you can't really be sure either way by an email saying they want to talk on the phone. I had a few good responses (Carmel DCJ and Religious Sisters of Mercy) and a few bad ones (which I will not name). I'd try to be optimistic, if I were you. What they will say just might surprise you!

I have talked with two orders on the phone. I believe one of the already knew beforehand that they couldn't accept me but still talked with me. The other VD told me that she would have to check into it further for me (my meds aren't mental health issues though so it may be a bit different). It doesn't hurt to talk, they may just be trying to figure out how much of an exception they can make. Also with the one order that can't accept me I figured it was good practice for me, I know have a better idea what to expect in an initial phone call.

I would say definitely speak to them. Perhaps the sister would like to get some additional info from you. Before speaking to the sister, just take it to the Lord. Remember he is the one calling you and painful and disappointing the road to living your fiat might be it will strengthen your trust in him and your total reliance on him. If you let him, he will definitely lead you that the community where you are to grow in holiness and in closeness to him. Prayers for you.

Hoping your call with sister goes well (well, if you decide to call)

Pax,
HB

Gosh, thanks for all the responses.

Why is it that a Sister would not want to disuss anymore via email, but only over the phone? Is it to see if I'm sane, and maybe to see how I am spiritually (as much as you can tell over the phone)?

I wrote Sister and told her it might be better to wait until I know what's going on with my health (fatigue issue) and get a medicine sorted out. But I also asked if when I call in the future, if it would be okay to talk at a time when I'm not ready to enter for some years. I also mentioned my interest in the retreat work, and asked if I could help in a small way, rather than be the head person. Well see what Sister says if she will even continue in email. :idontknow:

http://www.heartsofjesusandmary.com -- Sister said they currently have a policy of no mental/emotional meds, and good health. BUT..... Sister said they might make an adjustment in the future and take on a case-by-case basis. No promises, but it's in talk. If I find the Order attractive, I'm supposed to contact them and they will keep me in mind. I just watched their video. BEAUTIFUL ORDER!! I'm still confused if it is a contemplative or semi !! So many questions!! I love love love that the Priests (?) and Sisters eat together, talk together, walk together, etc. I love the charism.

I'm going to have to do this... :yahoo:
