Back to wedding dresses....it seems to me that the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at Saint Benedict's Center wear wedding dresses. But I can't find the video clip that showed it.

They might! I know they wear beautiful rings when they are professed. They started selling them on their website and my friend gave me one that she had extra. It's an "M" for Mary with a cross through it. I love it. If you could find the video, I'd love to see it. :)

Sr Mary Catharine OP

Here is the link to Sr. Bridget Mary's profession. If you can't tell, her family is from Ireland!

Yes, they are totally in line with the Church and with the diocese. The Bishop of Worcester is doing Confirmations there on June 23rd, I think.

At first I thought they were holding guns because of what Mon said up there but I realized they were crucifixes. :paperbag:

thought I'd post this in the wedding dress thread. My mom is concerned because of the Roswell PCCs and their custom of the soon to be novice processing out in a wedding gown. She is worried that, for a girl who leaves the community in between their 'wedding ceremony' and solemn vows, they will be psychologically damaged or just plain heartbroken because of their previous wedding to Jesus--AKA she wonders why they don't wear the wedding dress at solemn vows. I explained her the legacy of St Francis cutting Clare's hair while she was in her finery, but it was a poor explanation. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I suppose the truth is that leaving a community is a very difficult experience.
Is it harder if you went through such a ceremony? I have no idea. Our community gave up the wedding dress ritual the year before I entered.
What I do know is that leaving was the hardest thing I have ever done. Did it scar me? Probably. Would I have been more scared if I had worn a wedding dress? I don't know. I did wear a silver ring ( given at Final Profession) that bore an inscription - Jesu est mon Epoux.
He still is.

I am horrified to see that some Carmels use wedding dresses as this is expressly against their own rules and most definately not allowed. It concerns me that if a community chooses to be disobedient in this area, where else are they being disobedient? And if as a whole the community is dosobedient to the Order, how can the superiors expect the sisters to be obedient to them? Its really not a good example to be giving to the postulant/novice.

Hi Sr. Mariam,
could you give a reference to this, as I have never heard of it. I have seen historical sketches which also indicate Carmels using wedding dresses, so if it is an abuse, it has been going on for a long time.
