I cannot stop listening to the Monastic community of Jerusalem. They are so different to what I expect, and so beautiful. I would give my posessions to sit in the church in Montreal while they chanted.

Edited because I realised that I would basically do that for almost any order... haha Divine Office is wonderful!

Do the sisters and the monks live on the same grounds?

It looks like it, but I do not know for sure. Their website doesn't have that much information.

Yes, I found that one and I too thought it was the same congregation, but if you look at the profession photos, the veils and the collars on the habits are not the same. As well, the sisters on the web site wear white cords. The sisters in the video don't, they wear a black belt. As well, some of the crucifixes are different.
Oh yes at the second look I also see it. The white cords are really different!

Well I do not know how it is in Montreal, but I visited the community in Strasbourg and there the brothers lived in a buildung next to the church they were using for all their prayers and the sisters in appartements in the city, but still in a 5-10 min. walking distance to the church.
At the churchyard there was the refectory, the kitchen and "communal" rooms for the sisters.

The brothers and sisters are living really in separate buildings and therefore also have separated refectories and kitchens.

But they always meet for prayer and also for other things, e.g. there was a song practice while I was there where everybody went to.

From their website:

Thus, the monks and nuns of Jerusalem live both in separation from and in communion with the city. They aim to keep themselves from the world and its spirit without cutting themselves off from the world (Constitutions, § 4-6). " Separated from all to be united to all ", according to the great monastic adage.

They do not live a "mixed monasticism", which would not make sense, for the two communities have complete autonomy for housing, government and finances. However, they celebrate daily liturgy together, singing in four-part harmony.

and just because it is interesting (though definitely not my vocation)......

2) They work part-time as wage-earners both challenging and embracing the modern working world. Challenging, because they seek simply to make a living and not to make money. Embracing, because they seek to work as most people must, as dependant wage-earning employees.

3) They live in rented dwellings, owning neither their houses nor the church which is entrusted to their care. Their rule is to own nothing as much as it is possible, according to Jesus' very explicite call (Lk 9:57-62; 12:21; 14:33).

The music in this first video is from an Edmonton, Alberta youth choir known as 'Kokopelli'. They perform beautiful sacred music! I almost attended University in that city just to be able to join that choir. Very beautiful videos.

They're nice aren't they. I didn't know who the singers were in the first one. So you sing? :)

Yes, I too spend way too much time on youtube. This is one of the best showing the Franciscans of the Immaculata celebrating the extraordinary form of the mass

From Espana (with subtitles). This is a wonderful portrayal of a cloistered community that had not had a new member in 23 years but is now experiencing a tremendous surge in vocations.
