The High Elves: Benedictines
The Silvan Elves: Dominicans
The Dwarves: Franciscans
The Orcs: Jesuits
The Humans: Diocesans
I'm really not sure what the hobbits represent, but I think that these seem fairly accurate for the most part.

So I've been reading Lord of the Rings lately, and have discovered the following in relation to the races:
The High Elves: Benedictines
The Silvan Elves: Dominicans
The Dwarves: Franciscans
The Orcs: Jesuits
The Humans: Diocesans
I'm really not sure what the hobbits represent, but I think that these seem fairly accurate for the most part.
Hobbits are unnoticed and can hide themselves pretty easily, so I'm gonna say they're traditional Eastern monks.

The Orcs: Jesuits
Their origin stories don't seem to have any similarities.

What about the Ents?
Desert monks. amesome, but so few know about them.

Well, the orcs used to be elves, so they used to be amesome, but then they fell.
The Jesuits used to be great defenders of the faith, so they used to be amesome, but then they fell.

This is extremely disrespectful of the Jesuit order. The Jesuit order does not equal "bad guys". The order is not fallen. It would be more accurate to say that they are the race of men, in which some members have been corrupted, while some remain faithful. But really, I'm sure the same could be said of any order - so this whole exercise is moot.

I'm not saying that they fell to the same extent as the Jesuits, but that they have lost their purpose, and are a mere shadow of what they used to be. Mankind, however, had remained fairly constant and not changed dramatically, suggesting that they should probably be the most consistent, which I think would be the diocesans. Elvenkind, at least High Elvenkind, also, has dwindled, but not nearly to the same extent that the orcs have, suggesting that other orders be elves as well. That said, I'm not saying that the analogy is perfect, and would be slightly better served if some of the orcs were considered "good".

The Fanciscans are definitely not dwarves. I would say they're more elf-like. I don't know any Order that fits in with dwarves, really.

I was going to say the same thing. The dwarves were eaten up with precious metals (mithril). They were so enamored of it that they disturbed the bowels of the earth and released a balrog to get it. Franciscans don't own much silver.
How do you find the dwarves are like Franciscans, Cephra?
I'd say the Orcs are.... Islamic fanatics. Kinda based on the elves, but corrupted and twisted.
I agree. They definitely aren't Jesuits.

Every old order has reached a low point, or has some members who did/said less than admirable things.
The Franciscans at first didn't think the Native Americans had souls, for example. They got over it.
Just because the Jesuits reached their low while we happened to be alive, doesn't mean they are evil orcs.
(I still love Jesuit jokes, though

Okay, then let's make the dwarves the traditional Eastern monks without order designations. Both have amesome beards. And live in isolation sorta.

The reason that I said that the Franciscans were the dwarves was primarily because of their relationship with the Dominicans. I'm also basing it off of the Franciscans that I know, who also have amesome beards, much like the dwarves'.

Yeah, that's more accurate than the Jesuits.

Well, that's the thing: Franciscans and Dominicans love the heck out of each other. They just make jokes out of a playful rivalry. The Dwarves and Elves really hate each other, plus, Dwarves are extremely greedy, which is contrary to Franciscans' way of living a poor life, and not even being able to carry money. However, Franciscans are known for their amazing beards, and Saint Francis and Saint Anthony of Padua were both short. They weren't really short, just around 5'5 to 5'6, if I've been taught the correct things. Plus, Saint Dominic and Saint Francis were really good friends with each other. But I do understand how hard it is to label Orders into the races on The Lord of the Rings.
