Yes, this belongs here.

So, last Wednesday I led the first Fierce Female Saints Study over fro-yo before our Catholic Campus Ministry meeting. On our way to the CCM meeting, I accidentally let slip about my discernment (well, they wanted to know how I have so many nun friends).

Now they are referring to my discernment and "top 3" list (which constantly shuffles) as my "Bid Card." --> I did mention they're sorority girls, right? <-- And they have the idea that once I figure out where I'm to end up that they will have a nice little "trousseau party."

When you told your friends you are discerning, did they have weird/silly/funny reactions?

hahaha. My friend's baptist husband wants to throw me a bachelorette party (and he's not kidding!!) of course it's not the same, he envisions mass, dinner and watching saint movies.

I have a couple of friends who want to go on a pilgrimage as some sort of bachelorette party.

At least they're supportive :)

One of my best friends presented me with a self-made, fabulous, wonderful three-story wedding cake for our goodbye party! (Since we all who shared a house had to move out, I did not want to have a special goodbye party, but celebrate with my friends)

And out of marzipan she had modeled a nun that resembled me with the habit ;) :) And put right on the top. So everybody who did not know that I was going to the convent, knew it! (since there were ppl as well that I did not know soo well, since they were friends of my friends, etc.)

That was really crazy!! :) She spend HOURS in the kitchen!!

Haha, well, my friends think I'm crazy, but I've been told some really sweet things by grown-up ladies at my Parish. I always said at my big goodbye thingy, I'll put on "Single Ladies" and "Can't Touch This", the two perfect songs for a future religious. :P

Lol, MT. Too funny!!!

This isn't about how they reacted to finding out, but how they view it in an everyday sense: http://gaudebo.blogs...-roommates.html

My friends all started calling me "Padre" and what not. To this day, I am still referred to as Padre Dude in some circles.

Other than that, my brother says that he is going to take me out and get me super drunk before I enter Seminary. I'd like to say that it wont happen, but it most probably will... hahahaha

I like the idea of a Bid Card :hehe2:

My friends' reactions were pretty weird and funny in an expected sort of way. I had a few chastity jokes, and a lot of questions about the freedom to leave. (Actually the range of reactions really brought home what living in a post-Protestant culture does to you - if Christianity was what they think it is, I certainly wouldn't be a Christian...)

And then I lost a whole bunch of friends. I guess they just found it too much to get their heads around. But one of them, the least likely in a lot of ways, stuck by me like nothing else, and has become my best friend. She's a radical socialist feminist - but she brags to her friends about me! :flex: So that's been the weirdest, but for all the best reasons. Love trumps.

My friends took me seriously. I wish they hadn't... it would have been funnier but whatever. :|

My one friend simply asked me when I told her "So will you still be able to sew my wedding dress if you enter?" This came from the fact that I have promised to make her wedding dress when she gets married. I told her I could probably work something out.

Most of my friends are the reason why I'm discerning in the first place so to them it was no surprise.

I've had so many different reactions. One of my friends wouldn't stop calling me "nun" for a long time and she also started referring to my "nun fund" whenever she treated me to something and wouldn't let me pay her back. :| A couple of my friends thought it "made sense", which was an interesting reaction. And yes, one of my friends wanted to throw me a "bridal shower" before I leave for the convent. My nephews want me to be a nunja. :ninja: It all has been quite an adventure.

my co-workers thinks that I should marry a rich guy so that way I do not have to work or become a nun. Right now, I am silent because one day, I might surprise them and become a sister.

My friends suggested a "nun-shower". And they make references to how "holy" I am. I told them to STOP IT! But other than that there hasn't been anything that funny, though I am using my entrance date as a lever to get two of my friends engaged (if not married) before I leave!
