Hey Pham!

I have to write about three real tragedies that have happened. This is going to sound awful, but I have always been interested in tragic things that have happened because it is sort of mysterious, and it also makes me want to do something about it... the pathetic part is that I can do nothing about it!

I've decided on the Titanic, I've always been so interested in how everything went wrong, why they built a ship with not enough life boats etc.

I have chosen the "Tragedy of the Twin Towers" because I live in upstate New York, three hours from the city and I know a few survivors and I'm going to ask them. Also, they had connections with the banks in my little village... so I'm going to research all of that and might ask the bank if they don't keep it confidential.

I need one more thing that is tragic that has happened... (besides me being born and me joining Phatmass...) and I was wondering if you have any ideas? It has to be something though that was "big" and that I can find a lot of info on.

Also, I need some pictures of the titanic, and am trying to decide on pictures for 911 and I feel this is asking too much but if you have time or know of any pictures that would be good for my report.

For the Titanic:

For 911:

Um, that is all. I know it seems extremely gruesome and I was actually the one to pick the subject of tragedies  but if you have anything that could help I'd so appreciate it! :)

Oh my goodness this is asking way too much of ya'll but I also wanted to find some videos of tributes, action, etc. on these subjects... I think I found one for 911... but none for the titanic.

Thanks again all! :smile2:

How old can it be? Of course my mind goes to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and burial of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Thanks to Pliny the Younger, we even have an eye-witness account.he lost his uncle in the eruption, if I remember correctly. http://www.eyewitnes...com/pompeii.htm

If you want more recent events, how about the Japan earthquake from last year?

It could be ages and ages ago or just yesterday! I hadn't thought about that one... hahaha, and I was just reading about it the other day!

I was also thinking about doing something on the recent tornadoes... well it wasn't that tragic... but still I could ask my friends if they aren't to sensitive about talking about it. :)

I think it would be good to write about an ancient tragedy, as it would add some variety to your project. The writings from Pompeii are fascinating, made even more so by the fact that the ruins are so well preserved - we have a real window into an ancient world with that city.

I suspect that several of your classmates are likely to choose things like the Titanic and the Twin Towers, so the third should be something less widely discussed (or perhaps a little-known aspect of a well-known tragedy). That will make it more interesting for you.

I'm homeschooled! (my friends and I jokingly call it "home-teached)

I don't have to worry about other classmates... it is just me.

Yes I think I will go with an ancient one. Anymore ideas though? :)

OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! :dunce:

Whoa, so many options! Ya’ll can think for me. :P

I know I will still go with 9/11, but I don’t know anymore about the Titanic. Hmm, decisions. :smile2:

How about this for a tribute for 9/11? I really want this song because I'm a New Yorker and this is how all New Yorker's feel... even if this state is pretty messed up! I also want the kids signing... NOT ALICIA KEYS!

Or I could make my own... hmm, that would be neat!

What about this tragedy? The Jews in the contracted camps?

Yup. I'm debating. I think I will be doing Pompeii, the Holocaust, and 9/11.

Now to research and call around about it all. :hehe:

There's also the tsunami that destroyed much of Santorini/Thera. There's speculation that it is the source of the Atlantis myth. I don't know how much concrete info there is for that, though. http://www.livescien...nged-world.html

The Blitz springs immediately to mind. The First World War was also terrible after conscription came in.

Try and keep it focused. If you choose a huge topic, you will only be able to cover it superficially.

I have done quite a bit of research now... and I am narrowing it down to the: Holocaust, Pompeii, Titanic, and 9/11.

Also, I am doing an English Lit' program for the rest of the school year, but along with doing that, I have all of the rest of the school year to do this, and I'm a good researcher once I know what I am researching so.... time isn't a problem. :)

Something that I'd do is the tragedy of abortion, killing innocent babies... but no, it will be too hard.
