Anyone know of some good artists in cultural folk music?
I've been listening to a lot of old Irish ballads recently, namely by The Chieftains and The Dubliners, and it's got me wondering about other artists who do similar folk music for other parts of the world. I'm mainly curious about England, Germany, Poland, and Scandinavia, but if you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
For discussion: Do you listen to folk music of any kind?

I've been getting into some indie folk music. Well, actually I'm terrible with genres so I might be off, but Sufjan Stevens, José Gonzalez, Radical Face are pretty rad.

I like Jose Gonzalez! My favorite part of Red Dead Redemption was when his song "Far Away" started playing on the way to Mexico. I never really could get into Sufjan Stevens though.
As far as cultural folk goes, I'm finding it's surprisingly difficult to find bands who stay true to tradition. For some reason traditional Irish music is the most plentiful. Maybe it just sounds the best? =P I read that the band Pentangle was supposed to be a good English traditional folk band but I listened to them and they seemed to sound too 60s/70s-ish.. Mostly original compositions from what I could tell; no real old ballads or anything, at least none performed in proper form.

The Tannahill Weavers. Favorite celtic group ever - none of that weird heavy metal and bagpipes croutons, just good, traditional Scottish music.

Avvesome! I really like their sound. They seem to have a wider variety of songs than just the usual drinking songs that I've been listening to by the Irish bands.

That's what you get for listening to the dirty Irish.
No, but forreal, the Tannies do have a fantastic variety of stuff. It probably helps that they've been together since about the dawn of time.
