I'm a white wine kind of gal. When I was in italy I had a lot of really good ones. Beer is gross......

Back in my college days I thought beer was gross. Now I believe that most college students have low standards for beer (alcohol in general, really). I'm a total beer snob now. I never drink any beer from a can except Boddington's Pub Ale. I also like white wine, Yellow Tail has a new moscato that's very nice & super cheap. I tend to prefer red over white. Red Rock makes a great merlot, tastes more like a pinot noir.

I tried a can of Boddington's the other day. Tasty stuff. Reminded me of an unfiltered Belgian white ale.

I was looking around and saw this topic which caught my attention...I am grieved to hear how open and freely you all think highly of a drink that destroys many lives and families...yeah I know it's the responsibilty of the person who drinks it...but it is addicting and when one is raised in an environment of alcoholism this substance has a great influence on their life...a very bad influence...unfortunately I know this by experience...alchohol is a horrible substance to drink and be under the influence of...don't fool yourself and say its ok to drink a little...that's a lie and a great deception...deep down inside you know you can't be filled with alchohol and the Holy Spirit...I will pray about this...I know what this does being an alcholic for 20 years of my life...
Proverbs 23
    29  † Who has woe?
Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions?
Who has complaints?
Who has wounds without cause?
Who has redness of eyes?
30  Those who linger long at the wine,
Those who go in search of mixed wine.
31  Do not look on the wine when it is red,
When it sparkles in the cup,
When it swirls around smoothly;
32  At the last it bites like a serpent,
And stings like a viper.
33  Your eyes will see strange things,
And your heart will utter perverse things.
34  Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,
Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:
    35  "They have struck me, but I was not hurt;
They have beaten me, but I did not feel it.
When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?|"

Please don't see this as a condemnation judgement but rather to bring a conviction on some of the things implied concerning drinking alchohol...and maybe even a prevention of making a life destroying decision...this may not imply to all but maybe to the some that may consider taking up the practice of social drinking...it's not an issue that can be taken lightly...

There's quite a big difference from drinking in moderation and alcoholism. Catholics consider getting drunk to be a mortal sin which can result in the damnation of their souls. We don't take actual drunkenness lightly, but drinking in moderation is perfectly acceptable.

Like I said...don't fool yourself...drinking in moderation can be just as harmful and can lead to addiction...I know by experience and my life can be an example to this as a fact...I drank in moderation for a very long time and it eventually lead to my addiction...I posted my concerns seeing that there is an audience of young people who have yet to make that decision on participating in social drinking...or as you put it in moderation...nevertheless I would not encourage it and would go as far as in saying to stay away from any addictive substances...I would also add in saying that purgatory is a false hope of destination...which has no biblical backing and which leads to this type of lifestyle.

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17

50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.  51  Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed -  52  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  53  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  54  So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."*
55  "O Death, where is your sting?*
O Hades, where is your victory?"*
56  The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.  57  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:50

And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."  Luke 23:43

methinks this has turned into a debate-table topic
[/quote]

nah. I used to think drinking was a terrible thing too. It really can screw up people's lives and it's good to be mindful of that and not give the appearance that we support debauchery. And sometimes I do agree with our jokes and such we can tend to take drunkeness lightly, which is not the right thing to do. We're human, not perfect.

A substance cannot be inherently evil, it's all in how we use them. Knives are not evil, but can be dangerous, and some people should be kept away from them :) But that doesn't mean everyone else needs to use sporks to cut theyre steakz.

As an aside, I often see snippets of quotes from saints and such that talk about "drinking to hilarity" being ok . . . isn't that what some people would call drunkenness or at least catching a buzz? I'm just curious about those who are more knowledgable who can tell me what about drunkenness constitutes mortal sin WITHOUT posting that Aquinas argument because that's too beaver dam long. But someone could give me a summary of that if they want :)
