Well, I can think of one:

1- You could vote for someone other than Obama. Maybe.
2- uhh...

I clearly need to invest in a pitchfork before the election comes any closer.

You vote, not because you get to vote for the winning side...or the losing side...but to register your opinion on the best course of action.

If your voting to be part of the winning side....your voting for useless reasons.

You vote, even when you think or have reason to believe your side will lose......because the margin of victory tells another story. And the margin of loss may very well inspire someone to rise to the occasion.

If you don't vote, you can't complain. Ergo, if you vote, you get to complain.

TROLOLOL

On a more serious note- if I, and millions of other Americans, go out and vote and our candidates are all rejected or betray us, consistently, year after year, I get more than the right to complain. I get to opt out of the whole thing.

'Cause I can. No seriously, that's the only reason I'm voting this year.

You vote because it is your responsibility to be an informed citizen and participate in your community. It is your duty to be involved and to do your best to stand up for what is right. IMHO if you are able to vote and fail to do so then you have FAILED to stand up and be counted. When an issue like abortion comes up and you did not do you your part to try to stop it (by voting) then you are just as responsible for the outcome as the politician who cast the ballot in the Statehouse or Congress. You vote because it is the attempt to make the change that matters, we might not always win, and the changes made may be small but the attempt matters. How many times did Moses have to tell Pharaoh to let the Hebrew people go? Where would we be today if after the 9th time he just said "Hey God...he's not listening...it's not going to change, I'm not the appointed leader of men...maybe someone else should try."?

I vote so that I can make a difference. My value as a citizen is affirmed by this sacred act. By making a statistically insignificant difference that nobody cares about I'm standing up for freedom, justice, and the American way. God bless America. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. And support our troops!

Invariably, my vote is the kiss of death to any candidate.

However, I keep doing it.

I keep doing it because it is the only way I feel I can do my own part to try to make a difference (I almost wrote 'change things' but that has been a bit co-opted....)

I also remember how many people have died for this privilege around the world, and figure the least I can do is use it...

I agree. Voting is pointless. Everyone here who lives in a swing state should stay home to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the system.

Democracy has not be tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried. I want real democracy.

Wait what? Someone found democracy? NO WAY!

Where'd they find it? My country don't got a smidgeon of it.

I think technically that Alaska is an unincorporated territory and not its own country.

If everyone who complained voted we wouldn't be in the mess we are now. It's a privlage to vote but most people treat it as a right. You really don't have the right to not vote. It's a disservse to your fellow man. Make an informed opionon even if I don't like it.

In my immaginary country a vote would be considered nonbinding unless there was a 95% turnout rate.

Ask not if my posts are intended to be serious and make sense. I vote because I'm free. I vote because I stand for something. I vote because my voice matters (YES IT DOES!!!). I vote to honor those who gave their lives so that we might have the right to vote. I vote because MTV said so. I vote as not to pissoff Harrison Ford. I vote because I resent a candidate and it is a way to lash out in protest. I vote because I like stickers. I vote for teh lulz. I vote as an excuse to get out of work for a little while. I vote because this is America and that's what we do, doggone-it!
