just wanted to let my phatmass phriends know that, no thanks to MIKolbe , I was elected yesterday as a delegate to the Republican National Convention! (PA directly elects uncomitted delegates by name with no connection to the candidates).

and it's looking like Ron Paul is going to have a plurality of delegates in at least 5 states, meaning I will get to vote for him! which is why I'm not putting this up on facebook, no need to leave too much of a trail to the Romney folks who might seek to derail me

How does all that work as a delegate? Do you have to pay for your own travel costs and things or are you reimbursed? I've always been curious but too lazy to look into it myself.

I have to pay for travel and hotel, I hope to do some fundraising to cover as much of the cost as I can.

My brother goes to the DNC every year. If Edwards had gotten elected instead of lucky, he would have gotten the Labor Secretary post. I suggest taking vicks with you to put under your nose. Between going full stop, and drinking lots, the folks on the floor can start to smell a bit.

While you are in Tampa, I suggest a few places to try. Mike's pies for pies obviously. La Teresita for Cuban sandwiches, and their Churrasco is wonderful. If you can catch the Taco Bus you won't be disappointed. If you get to the St. Pete side of the Bay, try Ted Peters for a real taste of old Florida.
