What are your views on his writing? What's his best book?

I've heard he's a really good writer, and I really like a lot of what he says on modesty. I'm interested in reading his book If You Really Loved Me. However, it's not in any local library, so I'd need to buy it from somewhere. I don't usually like buying books unless I've read them before or really like the author, but as I've never read anything of his I don't have any prior knowledge.

Any advice or views would be really appreciated. :)

I read "Answering Jehova's Witnesses", pretty good resource for someone who gets visited by them on a regular basis like I do.

That would be an interesting book to check out :) We used to get Jehovah's Witnesses around a fair bit in my area, but they seem to have forsaken us.

(Maybe it's because of the Catholic Church, Dominican priory and strong Catholic presence in my street.)

EDIT: Crazy spelling mistake.

I read If You Really Loved Me. I thought it was very helpful. I loaned it to my wife's sister's boyfriend and it changed his life. He's been a vibrant Catholic ever since.

Thanks, Papist :) I would like to read it, so I'll look into getting a copy somehow.

Another question though - I did hear recently that it's more directed towards teenagers than adults. Would you think that's true? If so, does that impact much on its readability?

CRAZY DOPE POST, YO!

Jason Evert holds a Master's degree in Theology and undergraduate degrees in Theology and Counseling, with a minor in Philosophy from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Jason is a staff apologist and speaker with Catholic Answers, giving presentations to teens at seminars and conferences all over the world.

The book you mentioned is replete with Scriptural references and Catholic Theology. Evert has taken 100 of the most commonly asked questions/objections and answered them with keen insight using logic, Scripture, papal encyclicals and exhortations, theologians (such as C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton), and many modern day resources (including internet links).

I had a copy but gave it away when I left Brisbane.

Thanks, cappie! :) Very interesting information. I really like Lewis and Chesterton, so I guess that's another good reason to read the book.

I love Jason Evert. I agree with him all the time, especially when he talks about modesty and dating (Which I don't believe in anyway. Call me old fashioned, but I believe in courting). I love his book Pure Manhood, as well as the books Theology of His Body and Theology of Her Body. His series The Pure Life on EWTN is also really good. On his site you can listen to some of his full talks and it's really good. I'm going to meet him this year, and I'm really excited about that.

Thanks! :) I'm also one who has a preference for courting over dating, though I do disagree with some of the traditional aspects. I hadn't heard of those books, but they sound interesting. I've listened to some of his talks on modesty & chastity, and really like a lot of what he has to say. It's a shame that there's none of his books at a nearby library, otherwise I would stock up. Pretty razzle dazzle that you're getting to meet him! :)

I read How to Find Your Soulmate Without Losing Your Soul this past fall. He and his wife, Crystalina, wrote it together, and it's phenomenal. It teaches the "basics" of chaste relationships and the Catholic view of sex, positive body image, etc.

I've been in the Church for five years now, and before I had varying degrees of success with both my relationships and personal chastity. But this book taught me a lot that I hadn't considered before. There's so much great advice in it, and while it's primarily directed at young women, I also gave it to my boyfriend and he really enjoyed it, too. It's great for men who want to understand the way a woman struggles and how we feel about ourselves.

But yes, great stuff all around, and heartily recommended.

Thanks for your reply. That book sounds really beautiful :) I'll have to put it on the list too!

Yes. His normal target audience is teens and college students. I met him at the National Catholic Youth Conference. He signed my book.

I just ordered 2 books - If You Really Loved Me and Theology of His & Her Body. I wanted to get the book that MissyP89 recommended, but they didn't have it in stock.

i own and read Theology of His/Her Body and have heard him talk in a video about chastity and he is amazing. Nobody should go through more than a year of high school without being exposed to his stuff. revolutionary thinking for good on the topic of chastity.

Judging by what I know of him, I think his material would have really helped me through high school.

But I'm certainly glad I'm discovering him now rather than later. Even his short videos on chastity and modesty have been profoundly beneficial for me. So excited to get the books I ordered! :)

Finally got the books :) Coincidentally, my Brown Scapulars also arrived in the mail. My mother signed for the packages as I wasn't home, and I think she was a bit taken aback. :P

I've already read Theology of Her Body, and absolutely loved it :) I flicked through Theology of His Body too, but haven't yet read it in depth.

If You Really Loved Me is interesting. I was particularly happy to see a section (although small) on vocations. Even though it seemed to me as if most of the questions were directed towards guys, I really did get a lot from the parts I read. :)

I also ordered the autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, as well as a book on prayer by St. Teresa of Avila. Thanks to all for your recommendations, I really love the books :)
