Sorry to change the subject, but I thought this thread would be the right place to ask:
Does anyone know anything about the Carmel in Louisville, KY?
It's the perfect place to ask! :like: Yes, I know someone who visited there. They are French and under the 1990 Constitutions. According to this site, http://www.religiousministries.com/ (which updates their numbers every year) there are 9 Sisters and 2 in formation. Here's a picture of their Extern, http://www.parish-wi...Trip-l21-22.htm May God bless your discernment!

Also a little more info from the website of the Archdiocese, http://www.archlou.o...ment-for-women/

Lately I have been very curious about the Des Plaines Carmel. Does anyone know anything about them? There seems to be very little on the internet about them.

DesPlaines Carmel is very traditional- full habit, strict cloister. They use the Novus ordo Mass but I think there is an EF Mass there once per month. I visited there once and spoke with the very kind sister at the turn. They do not have externs. I think I saw one white veil at communion time but this was over a year ago.

The thing that I wondered about was whether the nuns could actually see the altar at Mass. I did not think that they could, as it seemed to me that their choir was directly behind a solid wall from the sanctuary. There were some cross-shaped openings in the wall to allow sound to come through but these were on either side of the altar. I had heard that this was the custom in some carmels in the past, but it surprised me.

If you Google this Carmel, you may find articles about a very rich San Francisco widow who entered there in the 1990's and has persevered.

Thank you Graciela. I had read that article about the San Francisco woman several years ago. Do you know if they take older vocations? I know that San Francisco woman was certainly older. I wish they would go with the EF full time instead of the Novus Ordo. I'm really struggling with the Novus Ordo. I attend an FSSP parish and the idea of reverting back to the Novus Ordo in religlous life is tough. However, most EF communities do not except older vocations.

The Carmel of Cristo Rey takes vocations up to 37 and even considers belated vocations according to their listing on IRL.

What about the Carmelite nuns in Brooklyn, NY? I can't find a listing for them anywhere but I thought they had the Latin Mass?

A very good thing! :like: As a priest once told me for Carmelites "the more hidden, the better" :saint:

I don't know for sure whether or not they take older vocations, but I thought I heard they are still pretty strict on their age limit, despite that they have made exceptions. I think all you can do is try. And yes, they have the EF Mass every First Saturday .. they have so for many years.. since the late 80's I have heard, which a priest once told me is to their credit, given that this was many years before Summorum Pontificum, etc. They have always been more traditional, and I read once online someone saying that they actually prefer the Traditional Mass, but want to have the same Mass the Holy Father offers daily.

Something else for you though ... I just recently heard that the Carmel in Morristown, NJ has the EF Mass every week and that they have switched to all Latin in their Office. They also except older vocations, so if I were you I would give them a try

I have heard that they hope to have it more frequently, but I am not sure how often they do. They have different priests come each day to offer Mass, and I heard many priests want to offer Mass in their beautiful little chapel and they have to book way ahead of time to do so! Mother has said they are spoiled there with all the priests they have! :priest:

edit: Also, you can try the Carmel in Alexandria, SD which I have heard wants to have the EF Mass more often too. They are open to older vocations and they are planning a foundation now actually, http://db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.nsf/org/166

hello! i am new to Phatmass- i am very grateful to find it because i am entering the Dallas Carmelites next year and it has been helpful/edifying to read these forums =] i hope i can share some information which will be helpful

here is some information about the Dallas Carmel for those who feel drawn to discern with them:
-they are under the 1990s Constitution
-they are considered very traditional and strict in keeping the rule
-they recieve Holy Communion on the tongue and kneeling
-they have all night adoration on the First Friday of the month until the presidential election (i'm not sure if they'll continue doing this)
-they have the tradition of wearing a wedding dress during the investiture of the Holy Habit
-there are currently 16 in the community (including postulants and novices)-3 have just entered this year
-Mother Juanita Marie (the Mistress of Novices/ mother superior)- seemed very motherly/holy.
-they are an international community (American, asians, filipino, hispanics, african, african-american)

i have to go for now- i will post more later! God bless

Welcome to PM! Do you have an entrance date yet? Are they bilingual, since they are an international community? Also, what *form of the* Mass do they celebrate on Sundays? I might try to catch Mass there instead of the Arlington Carmel next time I am in the area-not that Arlington isn't great, I have just been there a couple times already. Luckily, there are plenty of Carmelites to go around! Congrats on your impending entrance!

That is wonderful to hear!! Congratulations!!! :nun2:

I have a good friend who's a novice there now. I think instead of Filipino, you mean Vietnamese. They have like 4 or 5 Vietnamese Sisters! I believe 2 are actually from Vietnam. That is great to hear about the African and African American Sisters. I didn't know that.

emmaberry, daily and Sunday Masses are at 7 am and are in the Ordinary Form, http://www.dallascar....com/#!__events For the all night vigil on First Fridays they have an EF Mass at around 7 pm and then 3 am, and then the OF at 7 am. They actually first starting having those for the 2008 Elections and have never stopped since!!

Thank you very much! If I get the chance to visit, this will be the first very traditional Carmel I will have attended. Like I said, Arlington is great, but I could tell that they had revised some things, for good reasons I am sure. Nevertheless, it will be nice to attend Mass at a different sort of Carmel!

Chiquitunga, so they are making a foundation? Do you know where? They were making this one when I was in Buffalo and I've always wondered about them.
