Jehovah's Witnesses use the Coptic texts to prove that John 1:1 should be rendered "was a god" instead of the traditional "was God". Does anyone know of anyplace that has good info on this?

Should probably be moved to open mic.

There was a series of books written about how Catholics should respond to various other religious ideas, and I think there was one written about the JW's but I've never read it.

was a god? Do jehovas witnesses believe in multiple Gods ? Was a God hints at more than one God, thats the way i would address that and as to how many Gods are there or where there? And why was the God jesus rebuked of his God hood, and how many others have been rebuked of there God hood and how many still have there God hood, and all this kinda sounds like Greek mythology.

I suppose that's a potential translation from the Greek, but did any of the Greek Fathers take it in that way? I doubt it.

aha this has been transported to open mic, i was worried i went on a gliche and posted in the Q&A board, possibly i was deluded enough to think i was a church scholar lol NOT!

But for me what i posted would hopefully be the way i would address this to some random, now somone that had built trust with me that woz skitzing out, than unsure how i would go about it coz they may take offence to rye and think me playing them for a fool, paticularily if they where older than me. Still i'm pretty simple and i would confront such a seriouse statement with a seriously simple question, being How many Gods are/were there if Jesus was a God and not God?

Onward christian souls.
Jesus iz LORD
God iz Good, God iz love, God saves.

edit: And than i guess what is the context of was God anyhow, coz jesus still iz God. There may be a hint in the complete text and not just this one verse. Like the whole of John 1:1-18 or even just the whole of John 1:1 , i'm not going to play how many times as or is, is in the holy bible because it is taking the holy word out of context. I'ts like if i say 'The goose sat on the moose in canada." If you quote "sat on the moose." no one will know who sat on the moose or where the moose. Even if you just read the whole of the verse John1:1 it makes more sense and will give you some firmer ground to stand on and understand.

The "a god" translation is highly interpretive on their part.
