So, for fun I was looking into prophecy's by the saints over the years and I came across around 5 or so saints who had mentioned the 3 days of darkness in addition to St. Padre Pio and then I came across this:

For as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In (those) days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be (also) at the coming of the Son of Man.

"Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left. Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.

"Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. -Matthew 24

This sounds so much like the 3 days of darkness prophesy... doesn't it? :idontknow:

Hm, not quite. That quote in scripture is referring to the Roman massacre of the Jews in 66 A.D.

It can refer to both.

It can refer to both.

Is there a definitive way to say that it refers to anything in particular? Not being argumentative, but I'm very cautious of arguments that "this refers to that" in the Bible... Maybe I was overly theologized in college lol.

"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." ~John 16:12-13 (NIV)

I, personally don't think we should write off these types of prophecies because I beleive God won't let us be in darkness of uncirtanty but will warn us beforehand ( though I should say the church can in no way teach these things as truth). That way he can say "I told you so!" (

:lol4:). But seriously, I think we should not be in denial and say we will live to 100 and have X amount of years left to repent and do good. I feel like our lives should be a continual conversion experience (he! he! look who's talking!)
We should be able to acknowledge the power of God in our lives and in the world so that when something like this happens we discern whether it is credible or not.

Yep, it's also a message to those people who keep putting off cleaning up their lives and have the view 'Good times now and I'll become more religious when I get older and closer to death.' That's prolly not the best of descriptions but I think you should get the idea. Coming clean and being saved in the last minutes like the thief on the cross is not something that can be planned for.

Scripture has many layers of meaning, some obvious many very deep. I've experienced where a scripture that is normally not fully understood has fitted very aptly with an event or question in my life. This is why it is the word of God because he speaks to you personally through scripture.

No, in most circumstances. If it's ambiguous, it probably can be interpreted multiple ways, even if it's likely that the author may have had a particular meaning in mind. Like, there's a passage in Isaiah that most Catholics interpret as foreshadowing the virgin birth of Christ, but the author was probably thinking of something a bit more contemporary. Both are "right." I can't remember which one it is, exactly.

Overly theologized? No such thing, haha. :)

Scripture has 4 levels: historical/literal, moral (applying it to oneself), allegorical (typology) and spiritual ( lifting our minds and hearts to God).
In Matthew 24 Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple, which occurred in 70AD, over 1 million Jews died. this is literal / historical, because it was end of the Old Covenent, but also points to the Second Coming as well.

It's a good time to plan on doing something like raising the dead.

Or read everyone's favorite thread here at Phatmass :
