The best footballers in the world are Brazilians. Hands down, if you want good football then Brazil is the place to look.
I am a big Jose Mourinho fan now: he has a fun personality (and btw is Catholic).
But can you pronounce his name properly?

Actually, in the US and Canada, it is called soccer after a name developed from the Association Football. I was presuming to speak to a largely American audience here. It's called football, not soccer!
Brazil, home of the 2014 World Cup... Can you name me some/someone besides Pele and Ronaldinho that is worth learning about? The best footballers in the world are Brazilians. Hands down, if you want good football then Brazil is the place to look.

I've never understood why y'all call it soccer. Football is the proper word! I'm clearly hopelessly European.

Pele is a national hero! There will be national mourning for him when he passes. There was an amazing player called Sócrates who died last year. I hear Robinho is pretty good too.
One of my favourites is Adriano. He is known for being kind of inconsistent but he equalised in the final of 2004 Copa Ámerica like 2 seconds before the end of extra time and we ended up winning on penalties. It was amazing and it endeared me to him forever since he saved us the shame of losing to Argentina.
For teams, my brother is a big Flamenco fan. The rest of my family like Corinthians.
Of course.
My family are big Chelsea fans so when he was managing them I'd be cringing as they watched the games because the UK presenters could never get it right!

Wayne Rooney (England, Manchester United)
Christiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Real Madrid)
Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast, Formerly with Chelsea, looking at a deal with a Chinese club, he's Catholic too)
Tim Howard (Goalkeeper) (USA,Everton)
Wesley Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands, Inter Milan)
Xavi Hernandez (Spain, Barcelona)
hope that helps you out some.
Also there's a major tournament going on right now, Euro 2012. It's sort of like a World Cup but European nations only.

My co-worker is into this tournament. We found the games on espn3.com He suggested that I watch Spain vs. Italy and Netherlands vs. Denmark. Are those good games to follow or is there another that stands out as a must see? I'm just picking a few full games to sit through as I am learning to follow the sport. Also there's a major tournament going on right now, Euro 2012. So is Jose, but he is a special one. Maybe you are too.I've never understood why y'all call it soccer. Football is the proper word! I'm clearly hopelessly European.
The Corinthians were an amature English team that helped spread football's popularity by touring the world. Their 1910 trip to South American inspired the formation of the famous Brazilian team Corinthians Paulista. Almost quote and quote by Kingfisher Soccer Encyclopedia by Clive Clifford, page 11.For teams, my brother is a big Flamenco fan. The rest of my family like Corinthians.
I was thinking of making Chelsea my second team, but I am not sure yet. I heard Jose as Joe-zay, but the Portuguese language translation sites pronounce it more like Zhoe-zay. It is def. not Hoe-zay, like in Spanish here.My family are big Chelsea fans so when he was managing them I'd be cringing as they watched the games because the UK presenters could never get it right!
Thank you very much, both you.

Because we already have a game called football.I've never understood why y'all call it soccer. Football is the proper word! I'm clearly hopelessly European.
Listen.... We're Americans. We don't do things the way you all do them, and we do that just to tick you off. No metric system. Forks in the right hand. "Favorite, color, neighbor." We march to the beat of our own drummer.

Maybe a good European, but clearly a terrible Brit.I've never understood why y'all call it soccer. Football is the proper word! I'm clearly hopelessly European.
The term soccer originated in England, first appearing in the 1880s as an Oxford "-er" abbreviation of the word "association".[6]

Apparently, some Americans are hell-bent on using their their forks in their right hands. I'm not one of them, though. (You don't have to be, either.)

I was taught you cut with your knife in your right, fork in your left. Then, switch hands, put the fork in the right to eat. I was taught to do otherwise was rude and uncooth. I also heard that in Russia, to do the switch was rude and uncooth.
Good thing I'm as charming as I am.
If you stick to eating sammiches, then you won't have any problem.
