If you were to buy a Catholic book to encourage a young woman who's just graduated college and is feeling kind of lost and anxious about her future, what would you get her?
Go.

Swimming with Scapulars was good, I think, for both genders.
that's a good one.
there's also a set of Bible study books that I have, if that might interest her. (are purchased separately) they're pretty low-key. They are:
-Courageous Women: A study on the Heroines of Biblical History
-Courageous Generosity: A Bible study for women on heroic sacrifice
-Courageous Virtue: A Bible study on moral excellence for women
-Courageous Love: A Bible study on Holiness for womens
other good books:
-The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer
-What's Wrong with the World by Chesterton
-Even Unto Death: Wisdom from Modern Martyrs
-The Journey to Peace by Cardinal Bernardin
-Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
-Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly
-The Mystery of Faith: Meditations on the Eucharist by Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer (This one is short but VERY amesome!)
-Seek that Which is Above by Ratzinger
-Our Lady of the Lost and Found by Diane Schoemperlen
-May Crowning, Mass and Merton by Liz Kelly
-The Catholic Mystique by Jennifer Ferrara and Patricia Sodano Ireland

- The Abbess of Andalusia – Flannery O’Connor’s Spiritual Journey by Lorraine V. Murray and Joseph Pearce
- Extreme Makeover – Women Transformed by Christ, Not Conformed to the Culture by Teresa Tomeo
I can personally attest to the goodness of these two books,
- A Pocket Retreat for Catholics: Thirty Steps to Holiness in Just Ten Minutes a Day by F. Maucourant
- The Art of Loving God by St. Francis de Sales

Wow, such great recommendations here! The initial request was a gift for a friend, but I'm going to have to check out some of these, especially the ones you mentioned, Papist.

The Art of Loving God is a surprising easy read. It is a collection of talks by St. Francis de Sales at a conference he delivered to nuns. The conference was titled The Spiritual Conferences
