So, we've, quite successfully, been using cloth diapers and loving them. But the weather just threw us the biggest curve ball, yet. Our basement, where the washer is, is currently flooded. And, even if we could get to it, the diapers would never dry with how wet everything is. I am going to run out of diapers tonight/early tomorrow if I don't come up with something. Right now, I have around 36 flats, around 12 pocket diapers (6 quality, 6 cheapies from ebay that we use only in emergencies) and a bunch of microfiber inserts for the pockets. And about 2 dozen disposable diapers that are too small for our little chunker. I don't have any covers and no snappis or diaper pins. And no way to get to a store. Any ideas? How fast can I potty train a 5 month old? LOL!

Just thinking off the top of my head. Do you have towels, bed sheet(s), etc you can part with? If so, cut into pieces and fold each piece until you think it is think enough to not get the diaper too soiled. Just throw away the cut pieces of cloth when soiled. That should allow you to stretch out the cloth diapers.

That reminded me that I have scraps of fleece in the basement. If I can safely get to them that would help, as well.

Fleece will certainly keep the wetness from the diaper. We puts fleece blankets on our bed for baby to sleep on when co-sleeping.

CRAZY DOPE POST, YO!

The too-small disposables - (maybe trim them first and) insert them as liners(?) into the ones that do fit. When they're soiled, reline the main diaper with another insert.

In place of pins - DUCT TAPE!

Did the Red Cross set up an emergency area? Maybe you can get some there.

The store would be closer than the Red Cross shelter. My husband is on his way home, he was going to see if he could get to the store. If not, we'll break out the duct tape and the flats and work with what we've got!

CRAZY DOPE POST, YO!

Hubby got some disposables, and got the basement pumped out, so I can wash some, but no telling how long they'll take to dry. He's the best.

A few suggestions for speeding drying from a part of the country that is CONSTANTLY cold and wet.....

1) If you have some old bath towels (that you haven't cut up for emergency diapers!) put the newly washed ones into the bath towel and let it sit for a few moments to absorb a lot of the water. Then hang up that towel (it's clean it just needs to dry) so it will be ready for tomorrow...

2) Clothespin each diaper onto its own hanger, and hang them on your shower curtain rod. Be sure to put a little space between each hanger. You can get a sh*tload of stuff dried that way (pun intended).

3) If some aren't quite dry next day, you may be able to finish drying one or two diapers with a hair dryer......

Hope this helps!

I do NOT recommend not feeding JP for the duration... that's a little drastic.

I have dried them in the oven or microwave before, and in a pinch with the iron.

These would have been my suggestions as well.

Glad to see you've got some options lined up! Being stuck diaperless would have been a PITA.
