Went to my state's delegation meeting this weekend. We didn't really have much of an idea of what would go on there, the only plan I went in with was a proposal for a platform plank in favor of a full comprehensive and recurring audit of the federal reserve. The Parliamentarian there told me it'd be out of order because the delegation meeting didn't have the authority to do that according to national rules... looking back I wish I had come up with a savvy motion either to recommend it to our members of the platform committe to study (though the chairman didn't seem to be in favor of us even being able to do that), or to establish an in-state platform sub-committee thus avoiding the problem of the national rules. Either way, informally I got my platform plank proposals into the hands of our members of the platform committee and have started the process to get it considered, I will have the opportunity to present it to the platform committee at least, I believe.
I also actually ran for a spot on the platform committee. Again, we didn't go in with much of a plan, so I didn't really know what I was doing. I ran against the Lt.. Governor of the state haha, and before I realized there were only two slots available, they had already gone to a vote, so I didn't even get to speak in my own favor. they actually hadn't expected anyone to be nominated from the floor at all. It was obvious from the voice vote alone I didn't have the votes, I probably had about 20-30 people vote for me (the Ron Paul people and just generally the delegates/state committee members who had 1) seen my platform plank on audit the fed and 2) are very tired of the top-down nominating process and were happy to see someone actually nominated from the floor) out of about maybe 110-120 delegates/alternates that were present. Pretty good for running last minute against the Lt. Governor.
Anyway, I'm getting invaluable experience at least.
