CRAZY DOPE POST, YO!

Those affected by wildfires here - 11,000 evacuated.

Oh - and a whole bunch of others (and larger) around the Southwest, too.

Sounds like your wildfire and our flooding should've gotten together. :ohno:
Prayers.

One of my coworkers was all packed to leave his house if evacuated - they evacuated across the street, but not him. The fire is moving NW - had the winds blown slightly more NE, he would have had to evacuate.

I know many of the Holy Cross Novices were evacuated from the Novitiate grounds. Pray for them because they think they already lost one of their buildings.

The one close to here took out its first structure today. The one up North claimed (I think) around 250 homes.

The Holy Cross Novitiate grounds are in Cascade, Colorado. They did lose one of their buildings which was the Solitude building. Many of the novices that I know and keep touch with are safe in the Rectory of Sacred Heart Parish in Colorado Springs. They also said that they got word from the fire department that they have been on their property and have made a line so that the fire can be more contained. Keep praying for all those affected and for the fire fighters. Pray that no one gets hurt.

Wow - I'm surprised Sacred Heart hasn't been evacuated - everything North of it has been.

This is the highest priority fire in the nation - many homes burning now. 32,000 evacuees - including my coworker now.

Pray for firefighters, who will be working all night, for the sisters and others who have had to evacuate, for those losing their homes as I type this, and for this community.

Thanks

I am praying, friend.

There was a fire where I am today -- it got up close and personal to town. Thankfully, they were able to put it out, mere feet from the nearest house.

Is it safe to travel down this weekend, do you think?

It looks like it's more under control now. At least inside the city limits.

I'm thinking this weekend you should be able to make it into town. You wouldn't have been able to yesterday, as evacuees were trying to get away, but I'm thinking now it would be no problem. They evacuated pretty much everything West of I25, but I think the fire pretty much stopped at Centennial (which is a ways West of I25). I thought earlier in the day that the fire wouldn't pass Centennial, and though I had doubts again later on, it appears I was right.

Still, it's not completely over yet. Still watching...

i feel your pain, FJ. :( there's 5 major fires burning right now here, and it's not even really fire season. this is a bad omen of what the summer is going to be like.
