God is not pleased with the nominee and therefore smote the Republican Convention down by hurricane force: http://www.accuweath...-republic/70534

All this being said, it's totally not going to hit Florida. The chances are it will go towards Mexico or it will downsize.

Not sure if it's tongue and cheek, but I find statements like this a bit problematic, to be honest -- or at the very least I am somewhat confused by the notion and don't know what to make of statements about natural disasters being acts of God.

Are we to also conclude that the Boxing Day earthquake and tsunami in 2004 that killed hundreds of thousands was also an act of God?

Not all that sure it will hit Florida. A lot depends on terrain where it will cross Cuba. Besides, natural conditions significantly limit chance of storm coming into Tampa from gulf.
Lastly, this isn't new Orleans. We know what to do, how to do it, and have plans set up. Hurricanes don't surprise us.

<sigh> There was a hurricane 4 years ago, too. Hurricanes in August are not uncommon. Neither are political conventions.

I was actually being completely sarcastic. I know this whole thing is stupid. The hurricane either won't hit or it won't affect anything at all.

Scheduling a major media and political event in an area frequently hit by hurricanes during the peak of hurricane season was probably not the wisest choice on the part of the RNC.

It probably does deserve to be in the Lame Board since I wasn't very serious when I made the thread.

Perhaps not. But maybe putting it in Florida was a political move in order to help ensure a victory in Florida? I'm not sure, but it seems like a tactical move they would make.

What if weather events, which are called "acts of God" in places, really did have something to do with His approval or disapproval?

When hurricane Ike hit my home, was it because He disapproved of my decision to move to Texas or was it because He disapproved of my interior design, appliances & furnishings?

I went with the latter, so I stayed and rebuilt. Since we haven't yet had another hurricane strike us, I must believe that God approves of my new granite countertops and solid wood cabinets. He surely approves of my fabulous red washer & dryer, and is also pleased that I didn't get the stands or have them stacked. Praise the Lord! If I had chosen the wrong new furniture we could have been flooded again!

You almost saved this from going into the Lame Board. Way to drop the ball.

Hmm, all that hot air near a large body of water would probably have an impact...

So I take you believe that the entire Southeast should be boycotted of political conventions because they're might be a hurricane? They're could be a tornado in the Midwest. The West Coast gets earthquakes, and you could potentially die from heatstroke in NYC. Aside from hot air, all those people in attendance also bring in cash to spend on the host city. It's really not fair to boycott an entire region over something so stupid.

And a poster here who lives in Florida has already mentioned that they're are many reasons why a hurricane is unlikely to hit Tampa anyway, so I really don't see your the point of your criticism.

Yes! Hurricane weather is Ron Paul Delegate weather! We'll all stand outside in the midst of the hurricane if we have to to nominate him! (no one would do that for Romney!)... haha, I know that won't happen; I think the RNC might actually have plans to bus us all away if Tampa needs evacuated, I wonder if they'd have us hold the convention somewhere else... anyway I think it's gonna miss Tampa actually... but I'm going either way.

Ron Paul didn't visit here after Ike, so I hope a hurricane does find him.

It's razzle dazzle that you are going to the convention. I would love to go, but I think the last thing I need is a series of days that are all about politics. My days are like that enough already.
