It's a girl.... The baby boy is St. Francis. Their mom wrote a post that includes these pictures (maybe that's where you found the picture though) here:http://showerofroses.blogspot.com/2012/10/our-parish-all-saints-party-and-costume.html

Halloween costumes have a way of coming true sometimes!

Laetitia Crucis dressed up for Halloween as St. Catherine of Siena a year or two before she entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Joseph. LC also wore her "St. Catherine of Siena" habit when she and her friends gathered for her "Sister shower" before she entered. After LC entered, St. Catherine of Siena continued to "follow LC around" during her postulant year. (Saints have a way of following us around when they want us to pay attention to them.)

So, although I'm not sure that LC had originally thought of herself as Sister Mary Catherine, when the time came for her clothing, St. Catherine of Siena also spoke to LC's Prioress, and LC is now officially Sister Mary Catherine.

FYI. (And if I'm wrong, someone correct me.)

As I understand it, in the Dominican habit, the "cappa" is the long black cape that nuns and Sisters wear in chapel (and at other appropriate times).

I THINK the short, white cape that is part of the habit of the DSMME's, Nashville Dominicans, and many other Communities of Dominican Sisters--and perhaps some Communities of Dominican nuns, not sure--is called just that, a cape. The Communities that wear the white cape ALSO wear the black cappa over it.

However, many (most?) Communities of Dominican nuns (at least in the pics I've seen) do not wear the short, white cape as part of their habit. For example, if you look at the picture of the Summit Dominican nuns posted above, they do not wear a short, white cape (but do wear a black cappa when appropriate).

If the "cape" of the DSMME's and the Nashville Dominicans is not called simply "a cape" but called something else, please speak up!!
