I liked the dark hilarity of Pip's childhood. I might even like the Old Curiosity Shop, if I hadn't been forced to read it when I didn't like it. Try Moby Dick - one of the most overexplained stories ever written. I like Melville's short stories better (Bartleby, the Scrivener is funny.) I hated Shakespeare. *hides in corner* So did I until I heard a recording of one of the plays. There is a lot you don't get just by reading it.
