Who In Here, The Vocation Station, Wants Some Responsibility?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a Vocation Station Only moderator. You will not be a full mod. Your job would be completely focused on running the Vocation Station, as we have found this to be a full time job.

Here are some bullets:

  • You need to know what is going on in here
  • You should not be emotional
  • You should have thick skin
  • You need to be comfortable making decisions without guidance
  • You will have complaints about you, so must be completely immune to that
  • At some point I will tell you you are doing things wrong, so that should not phase you
  • Unbiased

Any volunteers? If you are not interested, you can still help me decide by propping the post of the people who reply.

I wouldn't mind helping out just in the Vocation Station.  I wouldn't want to be a full-fledged mod anyway, but this is where I hang out most of the time.  I'm very familiar with the policies here, too.  ;)

I have sent you an email (a reply to the email that I received from you at your webmaster address) about this dUSt. I would be most willing to help out in the VS - my email details my feelings about it and reasons for the interest.

I'd be up for it for the same reasons as Mater, but I'm unsure if I qualify since I'm not Catholic. I have no problems moderating discussion in accordance with Catholic teaching though, since this is a Catholic phorum and I'm a well-treated guest. (With regard to promotion of excommunicated communities etc.)

I nominate AnneLine. She's a major grown-up in these parts.

I second this nomination. I think Dame Agnes would also be a good choice.

I un-nominate myself and nominate AnneLine. Having actually thought about it now, she's a much better candidate.

Hmm, I like you and I think it would be a nice ecumenical touch to have you on board, especially now that Pope Francis is making unity with the Orthodox such a priority. :) (Plus I'm biased in favour of the European contingent!)

Fair warning: Most people who became moderators ended up quitting--some leaving phatmass all together. It really does take an enormous amount of charity, restraint and lack of emotional investment. Nominating someone else is almost cruel. lol

The emotional part would require a bit of practice but, since I'm a lead lay minister at my parish, I've had to practice this numerous times.  It's difficult, but I can do it.

Ha ha ha - I'm not surprised at all. I've seen how mods can get lambasted just for trying to be helpful. But you know the old saying, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it." :) I think nominating someone else is very dangerous though because who knows what their situation is regarding availability etc, but then again, they might be just too humble to nominate themselves, and so someone else just has to do it! :P

As for the enormous amount of charity and restraint required, that is something that living in community demands as well - and I don't think anyone can ever get it completely right (except maybe St Therese? lol). Lack of emotional investment is a really important thing though because it's all too easy to want to push one's own agenda and while this is fine in a general poster, mods really need to take a giant step back from their own feelings and opinions in order to allow others to express themselves freely (within the bounds of charity of course).

I've been on here since 2007 - and I've seen a lot of mods come and go. I think the burnout rate must be similar to that of social workers and psychiatric nurses! They all deserve a big round of applause for their efforts. Even the Church Scholars don't have to put up with what the mods do, because only other Church Scholars can post in that phorum!

Anyway, whatever you decide, dUSt, will be fine with all of us I'm sure. We know who the boss is around here :)
