Rings?

I saw threads about profession rings and discernment rings so I apologize for another ring thread!

I guess this is something personal to discern and it depends if its God's will... I'm still trying to discern about this. But I was wondering about wearing rings as a sign of a private promise/vow to God. Does anyone wear one? Is this something that makes sense? So I don't mean for discernment only or as a purity ring but for making a private promise.

I am praying about getting a simple stainless steel ring (not expensive) that is engraved (or could be engraved) with the verse from the Canticle of Canticles... "I am my Beloved's and He is mine". Does anyone know what it is in Latin? I'm still thinking and praying though.. Thanks!

Yes! It was heavily discussed in the past. All you have to do is Google phatmass/ profession rings or rings and it should direct you to the older postings. Hopefully they are still available. You can use google to translate from English into Latin "I am my beloveds etc. There are many options to be able to do that. Also there are many websites that offer jewelry for what you are looking for. It is a personal choice if you choose to wear a ring! Many ladies do! ;)

If you think of Cant. 6.2, Vulgata goes "ego dilecto meo et dilectus meus mihi". Latin often omits "to be" in cases like this.

I have a rosary ring and wear it on the finger of the right hand where one would wear a wedding ring in my country. For a long time I wore it on the left hand where you have it when you are engaged.

I have made private vows to the evangelical counsels and wear a simple wide silver commitment band on my wedding finger.

I wear a gold band on my right hand both because I'm discerning and because I believe I've found my community. I wear it because I need something physical to remind myself that I belong to God and also as a symbol that I'm not available if that makes sense. I originally had a silver ring and then bought a gold wedding band that I have engraved with 'Le Mo Ghrasa Mise agus Liomas Mo Ghra'. Its Irish for 'I am my beloveds' etc.

I wear a crucifix ring on my left hand. I bought it while on my RCIA retreat so it i a reminder of my baptismal vows and my desire to belong to Christ alone. Since I do wear it on the hand most people wear their wedding band on I have gotten asked if I am married.

Thanks for the replies! :) what DO you say if people ask if you're married? :S. Like strangers...

I wear one. If asked, I bluntly tell them I've given myself to CHRIST. That usually shuts them up - quickly. It's personal and between you and God!!!

It really depends on the person and the situation about how much I tell them. Sometimes a simple no is enough, or if I trust the person and have the time I will explain a bit more.

No one asks any more probably because I am 69yrs of age now, but in my younger years, I would say "I am committed".  If they wanted any more than that, I would tell them that I am committed to someone and it's personal.

Always got me by!

I've been wearing my claddagh ring turned inwards (a sign of your heart being captured) throughout my discernment journey. I really like that outward reminder to myself that I belong to Christ.

It was only once that somebody asked about it , and it was  (funny enough) the spiritual of some monastery. Well I explained and he was content.
