how can you fully detach yourself from your feelings, your thoughts and your own will in order for God's will to begin to work in your life and to begin to hear his voice.

God gave each of us feelings, thoughts and free will. It is not necessary to detach yourself completely from these things, but rather to use them in a way that would be pleasing to Him and to glorify Him. As you become more attached to God, you will naturally become less attached to distractions.

To begin to hear His voice, spend time in silence and solitude - be still and listen for Him. Remember that Elijah found Him not in the storm but in the gentle breeze. It is His will that you live a good life, using all the gifts He gave you in ways that express your love for Him and for others.

It is not necessarily "detaching yourself" as much as being responsive to what God wants. Many people struggle with discerning God's Will, but He makes it very easy. If something happens, someone contacts you, or, out of the blue, a set of circumstances changes your plans, by being responsive to those things, in spite of ourselves, "making the best of the situation," or just "rolling with it," you will start to understand what God is trying to do in your life. For example, if you are about to go to bed and someone calls you in need of help, maybe their car broke down or they need someone to talk to, and all you want to do is sleep, if you respond to that call, something usually greater happens, as a result. Our lives are a constant act of discernment and by that discernment we then attach or detach ourselves from those things that may impede us from seeking His Will.
