Orders Whose Apostolate Is Working With the Poor and Evangelization

Hi! I've been looking into orders a lot more recently, but I'm having trouble finding the right apostolate. I'm not interested in healthcare, education, or work with the elderly. Of course I'm completely fine with the corporal works of mercy, but I'd very much like the apostolate of my order to be primarily work with the poor and evangelization. Do you know of any orders that are like this? Thanks!

So far, I've found the Fransiscan Sisters of the Renewal (http://franciscansisterscfr.com/), but they don't have much information on their website. I also found The Fransiscan Sisters T.O.R. Penance of the Sorrowful Mother (http://www.franciscansisterstor.org/).

You might also want to look into the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate. http://www.parishvisitorsisters.org/  There are actually a LOT of communities that pursue both of these ministries as part of their apostolate, but depending on the community, you might or might not be able to select your own ministry. [You would have a better chance of this in communities that are less traditional, in fact--I don't know if you are willing to consider those.] 

In a number of communities, particularly the less conservative/traditional, you would have a better chance of being allowed to pursue this ministry if you entered with education in either social work or religious studies. Many of those communities will, of course, provide higher education (MA, PhD, certification), but ask that candidates have at least a BA before entering.  

The PVMIs, above, are more traditional, and I don't believe require a degree before entrance.

I HIGHLY recommend the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal.  You will not find a more joyful order with a true Franciscan spirit.

Are you anywhere where you can get to: Catholic Underground, Youth 2000 or NightFever? These are all events that they frequent, so you could meet them there!

The Little Sisters of Jesus. They follow in the footsteps of Blessed Charles de Foucauld, whose motto was "Cry the gospel with your life", and they live among poor and marginalised people wherever they are in the world, sharing in the same type of work and living conditions - with indigenous tribespeople on the Amazon, in a tower block in a deprived area of London, with a travelling circus, the list goes on. For a while a group of sisters even lived in a prison alongside the inmates and ministered to them there. If you are looking for radical poverty, and a very distinct kind of missionary work, you should visit these sisters. Their founder L. Sister Magdeleine wrote a beautiful book on their life and spirituality that can be read online here - it's very short, and gives you a real sense of who they are.

Check out the Servants of the Lord! They are a growing community with many young sisters.  Their main apostolates are evangelization and work with the poor.  They are very faithful to the Church and do amazing work.  I have a friend entering with them in April.  I've only heard good things about these sisters. http://ssvmusa.org/

Also there's a brand new community in Tulsa, OK called Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel's Hope.  They walk around all day in their habits talking to people and inviting them into the faith.  That's hardcore evangelization for you! The foundress was/is a popular writer and speaker on EWTN http://motherofisraelshope.org/
