Religious Communities Women&Men That Have a Gift Shop on Their Website

My favorite online gift shop run by a religious community is the Cloister Shoppe run by the Dominican nuns of Summit, New Jersey. It has a wide selection of wonderful soaps, candles, and other items made by the nuns, such as rosaries and hand-crafted wooden pens. There is also a good selection of books, some published by the Community's own publishing house.

While you are visiting the nuns' Web site, I also highly recommend a visit to the nuns' blog. The blog covers a wide variety of topics, including major events in the life of the Community (including, for example, the recent Solemn Profession of Sister Mary Magdalene), and tidbits about everyday life in the Monastery, such as photos of what the outside of the enclosure looks like after the very heavy snows experienced by the East Coast of the U.S. this past winter. The blog also includes more serious topics, including a current series on the different ways that the nuns pray, both for those who have specifically asked the nuns to pray for them, and those who have not made individual requests, but who are still in need of prayer (namely, everyone!)

The Novice Mistress of the Summit Dominicans, Sister Mary Catherine, O.P. (username "smcatharine") frequently posts on Phatmass in Vocation Station. She has been a great help to all of us in answering questions about the religious life. She is one of several current Religious of a variety of Orders who post in Vocation Station, and to whom we are very grateful for sharing with us their knowledge and experience of living Religious Life.

So, I especially like purchasing from the Cloister Shoppe of the Summit Dominicans, not only because I love its products, but because a purchase helps support the Community of a Phatmass member (one of "our own") who has done so much for Phatmass!

For an easy way to find multiple communities who have shops, try a site called "Monastery Greetings."  It markets almost exclusively the products of  monasteries and religious houses.  Many of them have their shops listed on their individual sites.

Can't remember the name of the community, but they were the ones refounded/related to the Community of St. John. - Their name is in latin.

The Benedictine nuns of Regina Laudis (Bethlehem, Connecticut) offer exceptional leather goods--made from the hides of their own beef herd!  While they don't have an online store, the selection of leather purses, pouches, floor/furniture covers is available at their monastery gift shop.  Please know that their artisans will also create custom pieces!  Log on their website at http://www.abbeyofreginalaudis.org/visit-store.html and see their other products (cheeses, herbal products, perfume, cologne, handcrafted metal crosses and objects, skeins of wool, woven and knit goods--are just a sampling of what the nuns offer!).

Did you recreate that post Gabriela? Or did you "find" your old post? (I had been hoping that someone had copied your previous post and saved it on their own computer, and would be able to send it back to you.) If you recreated it, that was a lot of work. Thank-you!
