I'm considering applying for clinical training in dramatherapy. As the name suggests, it's a form of psychotherapy that's rooted in theatre, and is especially good for people who don't have good language skills (people with intellectual disability, dementia, etc.) and who need a more creative approach. I've found a great course and I think I stand a decent shot at being accepted. Pros: the timetable allows space for a job, so I could support myself during training, and I'd get professional registration as a therapist at the end of it with the health service's regulatory body. Cons: it would mean committing myself to stay in the UK for at least two years, it's a big financial investment, and there isn't as much demand for arts-based therapists as there is for more conventional psychotherapists. Please pray for me to make a solid choice.
