The author, a military chaplain, talks about how to counsel soldiers, and makes a great many highly insightful points about listening, not judging, stages of spiritual development, the value of suffering for individual and society, the state of our mental health system, and lots more along the way.

I'd put an excerpt, but the whole thing is just so good, and it's not terribly long, so I recommend you just read all of it!
