"God Made Girls"

Somebody's gotta wear a pretty skirt,

Somebody's gotta be the one to flirt,

Somebody's gotta wanna hold his hand so God Made Girls

Somebody's gotta make him get dressed up,

Give him a reason to wash that truck,

Somebody's gotta teach him how to dance,

So God made girls.

He needed something soft and loud and sweet and proud

But tough enough to break a heart

Something beautiful, unbreakable, that lights up in the dark

So God made girls, God made girls

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls (for singing in your front seat)

God made girls (for dancin' to their own beat)

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls.

Somebody's gotta be the one to cry

Somebody's gotta let him drive

Give him a reason to hold that door so God made girls

Somebody's gotta put up a fight,

Make him wait on a Saturday night

To walk downstairs and blow his mind,

So God made girls.

Something that can wake him up and call his bluff and drag his butt to church

Something that is hard to handle

Somethin' fragile to hold him when he hurts

So God made girls, God made girls

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls (for singin' in your front seat)

God made girls (for dancin' to their own beat)

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls

Somebody's gotta wear a pretty skirt,

Somebody's gotta be the one to flirt,

Somebody's gotta wanna hold his hand

So God made girls, God made girls

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls (for singin' in your front seat)

God made girls (for dancin' to their own beat)

He stood back and told the boys, "I'm 'bout to rock your world."

And God made girls

Somebody's gotta wear a pretty skirt,

Somebody's gotta be the one to flirt (and God made girls, yeah)

Somebody's gotta wanna hold his hand

So God made girls

I think it's a terrible song and I'm embarrassed for you and anyone else who likes it :)

why is it terrible? It's pandering, fraught with clichés and the music is uninspiring in every way and the woman's voice, which might be nice irl who knows, is at least mixed in a way that sounds terrible, just terrible.

Turrible just turrible.jpg

Yes, I think it is slightly sexist. Not in an overt way, and not the way people usually think of sexism (I'm gonna treat her badly just cause she's a woman!) kind of way, but still sexist. (Disclaimer: I'm not a feminist. I don't like the feminism that is thrown around nowadays. However, this video is still off.)

Just the lyrics... God made girls to make him get dressed up? lol, good luck with that. Also, it's normal for men to cry. Don't buy the lie it's just a "girl thing." What about women who do drive? What about celibate women? Nuns? Are they "less feminine"? Yes, skirts and makeup and traditional feminine roles are all a wonderful part of being a female- but it's not the core of being a women, as this video promotes.

This song was made in response to the bro-country type of videos, but just because it's female-dominated don't mean it's less sexist than those of her male peers. This video shows the white, protestant, middle-class American idea of women. This is Christianity's understand of women without Mary and Theology of the Body. God didn't make girls for guys to use. I don't exist so men will wash mud off their pickup truck and be inspired to go to church.

In the end, it's not the most sexist thing out there and and if people think it's cute- that's fine. Just because it's slightly problematic don't mean it should be banned or something. Some girls do act like the lyrics suggest and enjoy it. That's fine, but just make sure you know what you're saying and suggesting.

I object to the song's suggestion that there's one way to be feminine, but I'm wondering what the other ladies think about the fact that Genesis actually explicitly says that we were made to be companions for men.

I agree with that, even in a contemplative vocation where the only man you'd see is the priest at mass and maybe family members. No one was made to be alone (yes even hermits, who do see people occasionally and won't be alone in heaven) and companionship and how men and women work and live together is expressed in different ways.

I think it's a terrible message.

God didn't make girls because somebody has to give men a reason to hold that door. God made girls for the same reason he made guys, because He loves them and wants them to share in His divine life.
