No need to be snarky. The definitions of sexual assault has changed before and will likely change again. There's no reason to assume it will be static. Pederasty was (is?) a phenomenon accepted in highly refined cultures. Why is the legal age to consent to sex 18 (or maybe 16 in some jurisdictions)? Why not 14? 13? Where is the line drawn and why can't that be challenged in a court of law?

And is pedophilia illegal? Maybe there are laws against child porn and such but just having a sexual attraction to children is not a crime. If you are going to condescend to people at least make sure what you're saying is correct.

Why wouldn't this be the right phorum? What is currently wrong (for the lack of a better word) with the Church's current language and what are some examples of that? What would you purpose the language be changed to, what examples do you purpose? Could you guarantee that the changed language would not loose or weaken the Church's unchangeable teaching on marriage and homosexuality?

I think you mean "propose".

I never claimed to have all the answers. Just asking.

Why you adding sexual assault?   All acts should be legal provided that all parties involved have fully consented to engaging in all acts. Anyone who disagrees with that is an intolerable hateful bigot.

Your little friend up there mentioned NAMBLA, an organization known for abusing underage boys.

How's that known?

Oh good word. I need to keep better promises to myself and not engage with people who are so completely incapable of not being total sand bags.

Yes, sorry for the error.

But yes it's very easy for anyone to ask questions. Still if we are going to ask the question you asked earlier it would be good to back it up with what we believe is wrong, or out of date with the Church's current language and try to offer some suggestions of how we can update that language without weakening the Church's teachings on marriage.

I didn't say anything was wrong, really. Just asking if our rote answers with often misunderstood language (by Catholics and non-Catholics alike) are preventing us from sharing Truth. I don't know if the language is out of date. It's a question. Also, simply because I ask a question does not mean that the onus is on me -- especially in such an expansive church population -- to provide the answers or the basis from which answers might come.

I wasn't asking for answers or anything. I just wanted to understand your question better so that I wouldn't say something stupid in response.

My problem is I just don't know how, nor do I know how anyone else can to go about even trying to answer your question if you don't know specifics. That's all I'm saying.
