Vocation Confusion

I know I post this poem often,but it always seems to need restating...

 

Wait

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried;
Quietly, patiently, lovingly, God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate . . .
And the Master so gently said, "Wait."

"Wait? you say wait?" my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By faith I have asked, and I'm claiming your Word.

"My future and all to which I relate
Hangs in the balance, and you tell me to wait?
I'm needing a 'yes', a go-ahead sign,
Or even a 'no' to which I can resign.

"You promised, dear Lord, that if we believe,
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord I've been asking, and this is my cry:
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply."

Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate,
As my Master replied again, "Wait."
So I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut,
And grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting for what?"

He seemed then to kneel, and His eyes met with mine . . .
and He tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead and cause mountains to run.

"I could give all you seek and pleased you would be.
You'd have what you want, but you wouldn't know Me.
You'd not know the depth of my love for each saint.
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint.

"You'd not learn to see through clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there.
You'd not know the joy of resting in Me
When darkness and silence are all you can see.

"You'd never experience the fullness of love
When the peace of My spirit descends like a dove.
You would know that I give, and I save, for a start,
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of My heart.

"The glow of my comfort late into the night,
The faith that I give when you walk without sight.
The depth that's beyond getting just what you ask
From an infinite God who makes what you have last.

"You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that My grace is sufficient for thee.
Yes, your dearest dreams overnight would come true,
But, oh, the loss, if you missed what I'm doing in you.

"So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see
That the greatest of gifts is to truly know me.
And though oft My answers seem terribly late,
My most precious answer of all is still . . . Wait."

On the topic of waiting this is something that has helped me. Offer up your waiting time for a specific intention. I'm currently waiting for about a year or so before I can potentially enter so I decided to offer up this period of waiting for couples who are having difficulty conceiving or who are having difficulties in their adoption process. It helps when I get frustrated or "antsy" about waiting to have an intention to focus on and offer up my frustration for.

Your food issues sound a lot like mine. I'm a gluten free (anaphylactic allergy) vegan (egg/dairy allergies and can't seem to digest meat at all), with certain veggies and fruits off my list because of food allergies/intolerances/severe stomach distress. I hate to say it, but the list keeps growing. I'm also dye and fragrance free for everything. Sometimes I think my death will come about because there are no foods left I can eat. My consolation is maybe God will allow me to live off of communion. I too can't take the gf wafer because I have an actual wheat allergy, not sure about celiac's. I take the Precious Blood. You are actually asking a question which I ponder- if an order would be able to accommodate such allergies. Also, not sure where you live, but gf bread without eggs here is $6-7 a loaf, and some grains which I eat for protein (quinoa) are $7 for a box which amounts to 2 cups before being cooked. It surely is expensive to have allergies but I am saved in that I can eat potatoes which are more inexpensive. I can't really even afford the specialty allergy foods, like the bread. So I had wondered if an order would accommodate such a diet just based on the higher price of the allergy free foods.  I hope you'll update us with the answer. Just as another thought, perhaps God is calling you to be consecrated in a secular institute instead? You'd be able to accommodate your diet, and also be consecrated to God. It's a really beautiful vocation also. Just a thought.

Sisters of the Visitation, for what I know of them, can accomodate people with allergy and disability.
