Is it true that we as catholics are in partial communion with the orthodox churches and can receive holy communion at there churches if there is no catholic church available to attend? I said we where to an orthodox person and they said that it is up to the orthodox priest.

This seems to be like an exception that has been made sometimes but not a rule. Some would suggest to avoid causing confusion only receiving in a special case like danger of death. It shouldnt be done casually.

Generally if there's no Catholic church our Sunday obligation is simply dispensed (we can get dispensation from our pastor) and not transferred somewhere else. There are priests who caution against worshipping with non Catholics, and this is how I was taught since common worship implies same beliefs. If someone *has* to attend a non Catholic service, I was told they should just observe.
