Take the Novice Prayer Pledge

August 27, 2015

On Thursday, September 3rd at 7:30pm, in a beautiful ceremony called Vestition, the six young men below will join the Dominicans; receiving the habit of the Order of Preachers and beginning their novitiate year.

Postulants2015HorizL to R: Christopher Hall, Patrick Rooney, Thai Nguyen Truong, Scott Norgaard, Duc Cao Tri Dinh, Andrew McCullough

These men need your help. They’ve chosen a radical life of service; a life that isn’t easy and one the world doesn’t always support. But you can do something to support them: pray! Your prayers are powerful and strengthen their hearts, and those of all the brothers still in initial formation.

When you take the pledge, we’ll add your name to a banner at the Novitiate. It’ll mean a lot to them to have your support.

Take the Novice Prayer Pledge and pray for our new Dominicans on September 3!

The six guys in the picture above have been vested as novices in the Western Province Dominicans. .

On a related note, here's a little advice in the form of an analogy - which I consider sensible - from the Central Dominicans' Vocations page on Facebook:

No one joins the military prepared to do battle with the enemy before he joins up. One must first enter a period of training every aspect of the human person. It is no different for those seeking to follow Jesus Christ and enter religious life. It all starts with a decision to do something meaningful and real. But you are not ready to enter into the fullness of the conflict. You are not holy enough, you do not pray enough, you have not mastered every aspect of the Christian life...you just do your best and say YES!

God will take care of the rest.

That's a great way to put it.
