stentorian -- Extremely loud

moiety -- A half.

A part, portion, or share.

Anthropology. Either of two kinship groups based on unilateral descent that together make up a tribe or society.

chiaroscuro -- The technique of using light and shade in pictorial representation.

The arrangement of light and dark elements in a pictorial work of art.

A woodcut technique in which several blocks are used to print different shades of a color.

A woodcut print made by this technique.

penumbra -- A partial shadow, as in an eclipse, between regions of complete shadow and complete illumination. See Synonyms at shade.

The grayish outer part of a sunspot.

An area in which something exists to a lesser or uncertain degree: “The First Amendment has a penumbra where privacy is protected from governmental intrusion” (Joseph A. Califano, Jr.).

emolument -- Payment for an office or employment; compensation.

Actually, I already knew what they all meant.  I'd learned them when I was a junior in high school.  :P

I didn't know what "chiaroscuro" meant, and wasn't 100% sure about emolument. The others I knew. But I always look stuff up if I don't have a clue what it means. :)
