Modern Day activism

The most sardonic and accurate representation of what too many people think activism is these days.

she also nailed the facial expression.

But you know what? I'm a jerk because I've done similar things before. And kvetching about it doesn't change anything either (which I've also done many a time).

Technically even if you go to a march or protest, all you're doing is holding a piece of paper with something written on it. In America we lionize, e.g., the people who threw tea into Boston Harbor, or John Brown raiding Harpers Ferry, but that kind of activism has never been the common kind...people want to rebel, but they want to keep their jobs, too. Americans have always had a weird identity as radicals who are absolutely afraid of radicals. Freedom in America is a greater method of conformity than any totalitarian government in other countries, because in America we conform freely. That's the secret to our ideology, civil obedience and civil disobedience.
