Thank you for sharing this lovely news. Sr. Mary Gabriel looks radiant in her new habit.

Many prayers for her and Brothers Jerome and Basil.

The Trappist monastery of Our Lady of the Mississippi has received a postulant, Sr. Mary Gabriel. Check out the photo - either the novice director is very short, or Sr. Mary Gabriel is very tall. (Depending on when you read this, you may have to look in the Blog Archive under 2017 February.)

I know both the novice director and Sr Mary Gabriel well, and I can say with certainty that the novice director is very short and Sr Mary Gabriel is very tall :)

From St. Meinrad's Archabbey (OSB) in Indiana:

New novice entered on January 20: http://www.saintmeinrad.org/news/?story=14481

and (old?) novice professed first vows, also on January 20: http://www.saintmeinrad.org/news/?story=14489

Profession of first vows at Conception Abbey (OSB) in northwest Missouri. This monk is older, already ordained, and had been in another order previously - an interesting journey.

From Genesee Abbey (OCSO) in New York:

Beginning Postulancy
On the Feast of the Presentation, Feb. 2nd, our observer, Fr. Gregory Hamill, completed his observership and began his six month postulancy taking the name of hFr.-John-Vianney-postulant-2-2-17-137x300.jpgis patron, St. John Vianney. Fr. John Vianney comes to us from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where he served as a priest since his ordination, May 1994, as pastor, parochial vicar and chaplain.

In a brief ceremony in the novitiate on the eve of the Presentation Fr. John Vianney was blessed with his new name and received the postulant’s smock. This brings our novitiate members to four. Along with the pending arrival of two observers later this year this makes for the most activity in our novitiate in fifteen years.

I don't know when she entered, but I learned only today that the Dominican nuns at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus (in Lufkin, TX) have a novice, Sister Mary Therese. She probably entered within the last twelve months but we can include her for 2017. Why not?
