Monastery/Convent Visit Help!

Ora et Labora

My husband just joined the church a couple of months ago! He wants to visit a convent or monastery with me and I was wanting some advise on which one we should go to? I'm thinking a road trip and I live in the houston area so maybe no more than 12 to 15 hours away! I personally have been to Clear Creek Monastery and the Shrine in Hanceville AL (and others but they are too far for a road trip!) So those 2 are definitely options!

Any ideas? TIA! :)

Head northeast to the Dominican nuns in Lufkin at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus: https://www.lufkintxnuns.com/ These are cloistered contemplative women, with perpetual adoration.

Then northwest to the Cistercian monastery in Dallas (Our Lady of Dallas):

https://www.cistercian.org/abbey/index.html These are monks who run a school.

This way, you get your men and your women, your contemplative and your active. Both are habited; both were founded in the 1950's.

And for something completely different - probably a different road trip, too - try the Greek Orthodox monastery in Kendalia, TX, a little north of San Antonio. WOWSA!
