I heard that their nuke technology came out of the instability in Ukraine. Too bad we didn't act when Russia went into Crimea.

I agree that undoubtedly the seeds of what we are now witnessing were sown in the past.

The situation with North Korea is unpredictable - it could go either way.  Both Russia and China are restless, each in their own way and supportive of North Korea.  On the other hand, Japan and South Korea are understandably considerably nervous.    The situation on the Korean peninsula could get out of control and evolve into a case of trying to catch the horse after it bolts............and we can't ignore the middle east either, the seeds of which were sown in the past.

I am aware too of the potential effect of alliances and a possible domino effect.

Our world is troubled indeed.  Our Lady of Peace, please pray for us.

"What to do with North Korea?"

"With Pyongyang seemingly armed and dangerous, what can restless world leaders actually do?"

I keep thinking that Kim Jon Un is either not quite sane, logical and rational or he knows something other world leaders do not know......or perhaps thinks that he does.

Our Prime Minister in Australia (Malcolm Turnbull) will be speaking with Donald Trump tomorrow (Tuesday 5th September 5.30pm here just now)..

Our Lady of Peace, please pray for us.

Pope John Paul II:

"O God, Creator of the universe, who extends your paternal concern over every creature and guides the events of history to the goal of salvation, we acknowledge your fatherly love when you break the resistance of mankind and, in a world torn by strife and discord, you make us ready for reconciliation.

Renew for us the wonders of your mercy; send forth your Spirit that he may work in the intimacy of hearts, that enemies may begin to dialogue, that adversaries may shake hands and peoples may encounter one another in harmony. May all commit themselves to the sincere search for true peace which will extinguish all arguments, for charity which overcomes hatred, for pardon which disarms revenge. "http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/prayers-and-devotions/prayers/prayers-for-peace.cfm

We have engaged in political rhetoric for probably 15 years both by the USA and North Korea.  It has failed to resolve anything and meanwhile North Korea's military strength in weaponry has been increasing and now might be at a maximum level - the horse hasn't bolted just yet, but the gates are open and we cannot close them.  We have allowed North Korea to assume the most powerful weapons in existence.  North Korea is now not only a nuclear armed renegade state, it is very possibly thermonuclear armed.

All the talking by world leaders etc. seems to do has the effect of giving North Korea more time to improve their armament potentials and the means to carry nuclear, perhaps thermonuclear weapons considerable distances of great concern.

We are very quickly arriving at a flash point.  Perhaps it is already here.

We could be at war with North Korea by something as 'minor' as a North Korean vessel firing on a USA or allied vessel.

Panic and undue, useless and unproductive anxiety and fear are not the answers nor called for at all - we still rest confidently in the Arms of Divine Providence (Catholic Doctrine as in the CCC 312 - 314***) no matter the times, the hour - no matter the situation.  It is, however, a time and hour for a call to ardent heartfelt prayer for Peace and Conversion - notably, The Rosary:

Quote

Rosary a spiritual weapon   Inn a message, Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung of Seoul asked Catholics to pray the rosary in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparition in Fatima.  "The Virgin Mary urged us to pray the rosary for the conversion of sinners and for peace in the world," said Cardinal Yeom. "The rosary is our spiritual weapon to defeat evil effectively and it will help us overcome challenges in our faith and transfigure us to become workers for world peace," he said."

One might not be able to pray 15 decades, nor even 5 - but one decade takes not much time at all.  The essence of prayer is the heart and attention with which any prayer at all is prayed, not the time spent nor length of prayer. Beginners Guide to Praying The Rosary

To my mind too, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is powerful as well. How to Pray The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

***The Catholic Catechism on Divine Providence  - "It takes time to see how God draws good from a moral evil. After being sold into slavery, Joseph told his brothers, "It was not you who sent me here, but God. You meant evil, but God meant it for good" (Gen 45:8, 50:20). God used Jesus' death (the greatest moral evil) for our redemption. Nevertheless, evil never becomes a good.

Quote

The saints witness to God drawing good out of evil.

"Some rebel against what happens to them but God does nothing without the salvation of man in mind" (St. Catherine of Siena).

"Nothing can come but that God wills" (St. Thomas More).

"The Lord showed me that all manner of things shall be well" (Julian of Norwich).

Because we have only partial knowledge, many aspects of God's providence are hidden from us."

Luke Chapter 12 "…6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
