At the Carmelite monastery in Covington, Louisiana, "Sr. Teresita of Merciful Love makes her Solemn Profession of Vows on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 3, 2018." There are a couple of pictures at https://www.covingtoncarmel.org/about1

They have three other nuns in first vows, and an aspirant.

From St. Anselm's Benedictine Abbey in Washington DC, here's a rather interesting story about a diaconal ordination. I tend to think of the Church as very big - and it is - but it's also  so interconnected.

##################################################

When our Br. Samuel Springuel was in grade school at St. Bartholomew’s Parish in Bethesda [Maryland], the priest who taught him how to serve Mass was Fr. Barry Knestout. Fr. Knestout later became an auxiliary bishop here in Washington and then, at the beginning of this year, was ordained bishop of Richmond, Virginia. As Br. Samuel was now completing his third year of theological studies at The Catholic University of America and became eligible to be ordained deacon, he inquired of his former “instructor” if he would be able to officiate at an ordination Mass here at the abbey. Bishop Knestout graciously agreed to this, so at our conventual Mass on Sunday, June 10 we joyfully celebrated the ordination. Bishop Knestout alluded to his longtime connection with Br. Samuel in his homily, and after the Mass he stayed for a reception in our Fort Augustus Room where Brother’s parents and many other relatives were among those in attendance.

The Dominicans of the Eastern Province (St. Joseph) have accepted 15 men to enter the novitiate in August, 2018. https://opeast.org/2018/05/announcing-2018-novitiate-class/

Actually, it seems that they're admitting 17 novices. A couple of friars-come-lately, I guess. https://dominicanfriars.org/province-st-joseph-prepares-welcome-17-new-novices/

From the Trappist Holy Cross monastery in Virginia. I've added the bold letters. This abbey was down to 10 - or maybe even 9 - monks, so it's good to see that men are entering now. If you know any prayers, you might want to say 'em for these guys.

Brother Theodore begins his postulancy

June 15, 2018 by Fr Joseph 9 Comments

Having recently spent three months within the community as an “observer,” Brother Theodore Berezuk (formerly Todd) has returned as a postulant to begin his initial period of formation. He joins Brothers Mark, John, and Richard in their continuing process of discernment and seeking the will of God for their lives. It has been a long time since we have had four in the novitiate and we thank God for their fervent and committed presence among us. This initial period of postulancy lasts a year, after which, God willing, Brother Theodore will receive the habit and begin his two-year novitiate leading up to his profession of first vows. May Saint Theodore intercede for our new brother and all at Holy Cross Abbey.

This is a beautiful group of nuns, not far from where I work. They used to have a chapel so ugly, it was distracting to pray in. But I did so anyhow, b/c they are lovely & they have Adoration. Thankfully, the chapel has been redone.

Before (it's completely mind-boggling -- there was a huge glass encasement filled with...plastic yellow...weird...ribbon...things...it was hideous): http://www.opnuns-fh.org/vocations/
