Secular organizations, made up of secular people, with secular ideals, and secular solutions to life's problems, such as poverty, sickness, hunger, birth defects...The quick fix: contracept, sterilize, abort. :(

Did you read to the end of the article?

“There are two camps in the Catholic NGO community,” said Joseph Klee, who served as president of the International Catholic Organizations from 1991 to 1994 and until 1995 as a deputy director in the U.N.’s Office of Oversight.

“One camp supports U.N. social-justice activities generally, programs the Holy Father has repeatedly expressed support for,” Klee said. “The other camp is pro-life and pro-family, and they are on a different page.”

“If we know of certain projects and activities that are not part of the UNICEF mandate, we should criticize them — but not UNICEF as such, because they have a very fine mission" Klee says

The quote in bold is my emphasis.

Is it so wrong to support Unicef if it does help children, in the long run??

I mean, it also helps children in this way;

If a woman has 4 children to take care of, and she's about to have a 5th one, and she's very poor, if Unicef helps her get an abortion, it's helping children isn't it?

It's not helping children to kill them, no matter what their mother's circumstances are!

Another horrid thing that UNICEF does is their battle against international adoptions. How does that help children??

They have recently caused all South America to North America adoptions to be halted becasue they say it takes children out of their ethnic culture. As if ethnic culture is more important than loving parents.

Monica,

Ask t he 5th child if it was worth dying and if it is better to be dead than poor. Ask a poor person that. You have just stated one of the meanest things I've ever read. :(

God said it best when he said "Thou shall not kill"

abortion is murder. cold blooded murder. an unborn baby killed straight from the womb.

help kill a baby?

a baby that God created and who God blest us with.

abortion is evil. its a sin. and to compromise life in any way is to destroy the most priceless gifts from God....precious Life

how sad to hear someone speak of such.

what part of thou shall not kill do you not understand?

Surely someone assinating Hitler would have been good for the world as a whole, right?

Wrong. The end does not justify the means. Murder is murder. Case closed.

I didn't think the article that Anna originally posted clearly stated that UNICEF supports abortion. As an organisation, it appears it is concerned with access to contraception however and that's an entirely different thing. Please read the whole of the article. Although it's obviously not supporting the work of UNICEF per se, it does say that the organisation does do some good work which "the Holy Father has repeatedly expressed support for"

The quote in bold is my emphasis.

Klee doesn't speak for the Church, and hasn't held a position representing the Church since 1994, according to that article.

Interestingly, the article also states that:

In 1996, concerns about the direction of UNICEF programs prompted the Holy See to cancel its symbolic funding of the agency — a gesture that has not been rescinded.

The Vatican cited “participation of UNICEF in the publication of a U.N. manual advocating the distribution of abortifacient ‘post-coital contraceptives’ to refugee women in emergency situations,” referring to the U.N. “Reproductive Health in Refugee Situations: An Interagency Field Manual,” which UNICEF helped write.

Mr. Klee may think Unicef has "a very fine mission," but the Vicar of Christ apparently does not.

Pax Christi. <><

Ok, Monica, we need to start a pro-life thread for you....Girl, you need to consider the SANCTITY of each human life, not attempt to judge one's quality of life by your own comfortable standards!

Jesus was born in a stable. Should Mary have aborted Him? Maybe He was telling us something there!!!
