Ash Wednesday

My dad's family was Volga German originally from Bavaria (I usually eat no bratwurst or sausage except that which my dad makes. It is a hard sell to get me to eat sausage of any other kind.) -- the first thing I said to dad when he asked about the new pope: "He's a GERMAN from BAVARIA!"

Hehe, I love the sisters with champagne! I told all my friends that we should have a brat and kraut party to celebrate the new pope. I hate kraut, but I'm not German, so its ok for me to not like it. ^_^

Bring on the German chocolate! :P

HAHAHAHA... my dad used to make sauerkraut too. I remember at the dinner table one of my brothers whispered to me and I looked over and down and he had stuffed it in his balled up napkin and we were both giggling about it. (We were just young kids) I think in another incident it got hidden in a hollowed out baked potato skin.

I actually like the stuff at times. It's like coleslaw -- I can be kinda hot and cold about it. :rolling:

Ash Wednesday

I recently read a book about life inside the Vatican and apparently after ages of the cooks in the pope's kitchen at the Vatican were used to making sure that the Italian fare like tomatoes, basil, artichokes were on hand -- but there was a certain adjustment those chefs had to make to accommodate JP2's love for Borscht and Kielbasa. :rotfl:
