you'd have to hope they live near you... I think most (if not all) priests would refuse to do direction online. It's just not the same.

No, not all priests give spiritual direction.
It is a specialised area.
And online is fine with many, both priests and religious.
After all, Padre Pio had all his spiritual direction by snailmail for many years and the same is true of many others, including myself. I have never had face to face direction and I am a professed Nun...
Jesus provides always if we are openminded enough

I don't think you will find many GOOD spiritual directors willing to engage in online spiritual direction. I don't see how it would fulfill the purposes of spiritual direction in a full manner. Most priests I've talked about spiritual direction with have warned against those who would offer such services over the the internet.

Do you have a source for your claims about St. Pio? Most letter writing takes place between people who have established a stable relationship face to face...

I asked in the other thread... but to which order do you belong? How long have you been a nun?

DEAR, dear young man; I am not in the habit of making false claims...

Padre Pio was away from his Friary for many years and never met his directors.
There simply was no other way.
Tthere are three large volumes of his letters to and from them; and also to and from a directee of his as he continued that tradition....who he met only once I think ,and that shortly before her death. She was a Third Order Franciscan..
Read them and learn now spiritual direction works by post and email.
They are wonderful books, full of wisdom. I have two of them here.....here CATCH!

It really does, work, you know... I have contacts also all over the world seeking spiritual advice and help..... by email......and see what a wide choice it gives us.. the whole world is our oyster...... I an d many others bless the day email was invented. Good direction is so hard to find. I have the very best and i give the very best.....

The death knell of any tradition is " We have always done it this way.... " God gives us these resources to use for His glory..

Bless you this day; in haste here just now so please excuse me? Thank you for that courtesy.....
Oh; I am Life Professed in Sisters of Faith....

and would you seriously and honestly recommend online spiritual direction to a person discerning God's will in their life as a good option?

I've never heard of a priest recommending online direction, and I can't imagine that it would be very beneficial. For me, such an integral part of direction is confession. Besides that, I think there would be a very grave temptation to be someone who you are not, to spiritual pride, communicating with someone you have never met.
