[quote name='Oik' date='Jun 26 2005, 07:04 PM']Ubi Caritas scares me...
..we become what we recieve...

Maybe I just heard a "revamped" version.

Faith of our Fathers is a great song (alotugh I don't know how old it is or whether it would be appropriate for a wedding).

I've never heard a version of Ubi Caritas with those words...

Full text for Ubi Caritas:

[quote]Where charity and love are, there God is.
The love of Christ has gathered us into one flock.
Let us exult, and in Him be joyful.
Let us fear and let us love the living God.
And from a sincere heart let us love each other (and Him).

Where charity and love are, there God is.
Therefore, whensoever we are gathered as one:
Let we in mind be divided, let us beware.
Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way.
And in the midst of us be Christ our God.

Where charity and love are, there God is.
Together also with the blessed may we see,
Gloriously, Thy countenance, O Christ our God:
A joy which is immense, and also approved:
Through infinite ages of ages.
Amen.

Sorry, I got Ubi Caritas and Amen, el Cuerpo de Cristo mixed up.

The Ubi Caritas version I am talking about was indeed a "revamped" version by Bob Hurd.

If not familiar with the lyrics, here they are:

Chorus:

Ubi Caritas est vera est vera Deus ibi est Deus ibi est

Verse 3:

"May we who gather at this table to share the bread of life become a sacrament of love your healing touch O Christ."

[quote name='Matty_boy' date='Jun 26 2005, 11:02 AM']I really don't want "Ave Maria" at my wedding.  I don't know how my fiancee feels about it, but I think it's really overdone, and I've never heard it sung well at a wedding.  It's a hard song to sing, I'll give the singers that, but I'd rather have something simpler but sung well.

Sing of Mary, pure and lowly
Virgin Mother undefiled
Sing of God's own Son most holy
Who became her little Child
Fairest Child of fairest mother
God the Lord who came to earth
Word made Flesh, our very brother
Takes our nature by His birth

Sing of Jesus, Son of Mary
In the home at Nazareth
Toil and labor cannot weary
Love enduring unto death
Constant was the love He gave her
Though He went forth from her side
Forth to preach and heal and suffer
Till on Calvary He died

Glory be to God the Father
Glory be to God the Son
Glory be to God the Spirit
Glory to the Three in One
From the heart of Blessed Mary
From all saints the song ascends
And the Church the strain reechos
Unto earth's remotest ends

Even the worst singer would have a hard time messing up the melody to this song. :)

[quote name='immaculata' date='Jun 27 2005, 06:08 AM']Oh, and it's got a wicked cool harmony if you have more than one singer. Sounds awesome in four parts.

It does? I have never heard it. :( That is okay... it is pretty without harmonies, too.

how about "You are mine" I always though that was appropriate. I don't know how old it is, or if it's considered traditional

[quote name='Colleen' date='Jun 25 2005, 03:27 PM']Definitely. I recommend Gounod's or Schubert's version.

I like Schubert's version, but he was such a secular kinda guy.

I'm always fascinated with music history and the lives of certain composers.... Like you have composers like Poulenc who loved God and the Church, and then you have composers like Verdi who had serious problems with faith. I love studying how it comes out in their music...

But even though Schubert wasn't Catholic, his Ave Maria is my favorite.

[quote name='Raphael' date='Jun 26 2005, 02:44 AM']Iggy will laugh at this, but I'm very fond of Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence and I think one can understand it in the sense of the extreme reverence we should have for marriage, as it talks about Christ descending to save us, His Bride, etc.

I was going to suggest that hymn too, but wasn't sure it would be liturgically appropriate. It *is* one of my favorites...

I am not traditional enough  - I just sang "Wedding Song" as a duet for a communion at a friends wedding.
