The sisters I was talking about in Alexandria, SD are from the Buffalo Carmel. I'm not sure if Buffalo is their "motherhouse" or if they're autonomous, but I think Alexandria is technically a daughter house, and I know that Buffalo is her founder.

[quote name='jiyoung' date='Sep 5 2005, 11:58 PM']I'm discerning with the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles in Alhambra, CA...well actually I'm just discerning, but I'm investigating them (for lack of a better word). They're great! And they have beautiful habits. They're not cloistered though, I'm pretty sure.

zabbazooey which carmel are you going to visit? They do they have a website?

Also yes the buffalo carmel did found the Alexandria Carmel. The Carmel Iam discerning is near Grand Rapids and they founded the Buffalo Carmel. So there all connected.

Hm, I visited my citys Carmel.....they are so lovely, but since visiting cleared up my confusion...I did not feel as though it was "home."

St Therese of Lisieux was superb though, and it was a lovely Mass.........

Love and prayers all!

They are cloistered, the contemplative nuns.....we don't have any active Carmelites down here at all. The nearest thing to active Carmelites, are the Carmel priests in Aussie (just across the ditch, lol.)
